On an 01 stock header cobra with 2 camber flowmasters. Bassani with cats felt really strong at low end but did not like 'raspy' sound. Wanted deeper sound which replacement Mac no cat H gave. However, noticeable low end torque and acceleration to mid range is less with the H. In quarter mile et would there be a difference? 0-60 is Mac set up really slower or just feels that way.

I have a friend who has ran numorous setups, including an o/r H + Flow thunder catback, and now a bassani catted X and bassani catback. As far as mid pipes go, he says the cats actually improve the power band, giving better power and torque over offroad pipes up until ~5500rpm. This may be true, and is probably what your experiencing.

I know everyone swears by the X-pipe, and I bought into the hype. I bought a UPR offroad Xpipe, becuase it is inexpensive, quality, has good fitment and has a good flowing design. But I think that on a n/a Cobra with only a few bolt ons, the difference between offroad H/X pipes, and catted H/X pipes is going to be nominal. I think everyone gets way too hyped up over a couple peak HP. Some may claim "7rwhp more with X over H!" but you gotta consider that dyno runs can easily vary 7hp from run to run with no changes, mainly becuase of heatsoak.

Any-damn ways, I kinda got off track there. You did lose a bit of torque/horsepower under ~3500rpm by switching to that offroad midpipe. I personally was not able to notice the difference in low end power loss by switching my offroad xpipe in, but thats just me. Maybe if I were to put my stocker back in I would notice a difference, but whatever. I'm willing to bet your peak dyno #'s are going to be very similer between that offroad H and your catted X, with the X giving a little more power down low. But then again, think about when you drag race...your NEVER under ~4400rpm, so the offroad pipe is going to be just as good as the catted pipe, and a little better towards redline. Getting gears for your snake will only magnify the positive results.

Side Note: (just wanted to toss this in) The cool thing about our Cobras vs. GT's is our cars just keep pulling. I raced a few GT's at the track, and with similer '60's and reaction times, they are usually right on my @ss. But by the time I approach the 1/8th marker, I am pulling hard. By the time the quarter mile is over, I have totally left them in the dust. Our 32V motors just keep pulling and pulling and pulling....the sensation you get from that is really cool!
