Fender apron Cutting Question

Well Finally had time this afternoon to to some work on the car. The LH fender apron I got is a Ford peace that I got from Johns Mustang. Nice panel. But it does not have the holes cut on the top for the fender to connect to. My question is, what would be the best way to do these holes? I tried my pneumatic drimal type tool, and can tell there's not much chance of doing it this way and it coming out nice. Anyone have any suggestions? Take it to a machine shop?

Either one of 2 things. One, it was an error in production. Two, its a crappy fender! Either way, I would get another. That would just be too much work for something that should have been done for you.

Check this out. This has holes for fender bolts.

The repro aprons for 67/68 dont have holes though.

The Dremel method is probably a good approach. If the mounting holes were a perfect circle a drill might work better but if my memory serves me correctly they are more of a rectangular shape.

I think it has a square hole for the nut/clips and an oval hole for the bolt. the oval hole you can do with 2 round holes and then file out the center. the square hole you can do with a home made chisel, grind a square chisel and use a block of OAK for an anvil and it should cut fairly easy.

I am faced with this issue too on my 67 coupe project. I plan on using a dremel too and tracing out the original holes onto the new apron.

Thanks for the tips. Glad this board is here. So for the square chisel, what make it the size of the square? Or just use it to punch out the sides? Again thanks for the help

you can also buy sheet metal punches from almost any electrical supply store in an assortment of sizes. They will make short work or sheet metal that thin.
