Hello people of stangnet. Well i got my gears like a month ago and there just chillin there. I just got my paycheck, so i have about 400 bucks to spend. My question is WHAT SHOULD I BUY! My plan is to have a daily driver, and weekend drag machine. Im going straight to suspension mods and skipping the power mods because i dont have money for that. and i think suspension mods will give me the best gain for the money.

Anyways, the plan is gears, M/T DR's on 10 holes, Maximum Motorsports LCA's (std. or drag?), Eibach drag launch kit, lakewood 50/50's 90/10's, Full length MM Subframes. I already had aluminum uppers installed cause my stockers were cracked

When i install the LCA's what should i do with the torque boxes? Should i have them weld them? Should i get the plates?

I dont care much about driveablity, i only drive about 3 miles to school everyday, and 10 miles to work almost everyday, so i can live with a rough car if shes getting some 1.8ish 60' times

How hard is it to take off the front sway bar? I want to take it off cause im going to the track this wednesday to get a base run, and then ill put it back on if its not hard to take off (first time ever at track, im excited, if it dosent rain..)

Do you guys think i can get low 13's with that setup? on stock engine and good driving? My main goal was to get in the 13's, but now my buddy is converting from mustangs and is getting an evo VIII when he has the chance to get an 03 terminator :bang:, so i HAVE to beat him to make him regret it. racing at the track of course.

But now ive been reading around, do you guys think my stock rear end isnt enough to hold the m/t dr's? (should i get the et streets? i wont be upgrading motor till about a year) Im thinking if now that my cars rear is gonna be riped open installing gears, i should buy like an eaton trac lock and some axles? Only problem is i dont have money to buy 5 lug wheels. Can i buy like a 38spline trac lock and use stock axles till i have money? Should i instal my gears and save up for that or will it be cheaper to install it all at once? Or should i just not worry about it with stock motor and head to suspension? All these questions are wandering around in my head and i dont know what to do. Any help would be appreciated, thanks alot guys.

NOTE: Im not sure if i have one wheel wonder, BUT i did buy the trac lok rebuild, the master bearing kit from 50resto, AND axle bearings, should this be enough to hold some m/t dr's or et streets?

If it were me here is how I would attack it

Gears, LCAs, subframe connectors all in one shot or pretty close to each other in install time. That should give me a nice base. BTW I have MM full length on my vert and a set of MM adjustable LCAs, they are just the regular ones not the drag ones though. Very nice the car hooks better than with the stock LCAs on there and no wheel hop. For gears I would probably go with 3.73s especially if you have a 5 speed. From there look at lakewood shocks and struts and a drag launch springs or what not.

I would not go with E/T streets until I beefed up the rear end. That is my plan and I am going to get some 31 spline axles and a used 31 spline t lok diff, rebuild it and then I will get some E/T streets. With the stock rear end I would only go as far as drag radials. but that is just me and I might be overly cautious.

arent et streets the drag radials? Or are those the slicks. Should i just get the M/T dr's till i beef everything up and actually need the slicks? Thanks alot for the reply, anyone else have some opinions on the order i should buy the parts? And will the m/t dr's tear up my rearend?

I already have frpp 3.73 gears sitting in my room with the trac lok rebuild and master bearing kit and axle bearings, should i just get those installed? I have the money but i didnt know if it would be better to buy the trac lok stuff and install it all at the same time. But i guess i shoouldnt need that stuff.

Ill probaly be getting my gears installed sometime during fall break (begning of october) powered by ford said theyd do it for 275

Thanks alot ryc

When I first started racing my car I did it on nothing but a set of 3.73's. Stock axle's and track loc. The car hooked solid with 5500 rpm launches. There is alway a possiablilty you will break it running it that hard but I got away with stock stuff when I had a stock motor.
I would suggest rebuilding what you have and running it till you have the money to upgrade it right. The Eibach drag kit will work great. Make sure you uppers are adjustable. If they are not you need to change them to so you can set your pinion angle. I know I bought the cheap upper and lower control arms off ebay. Double adjustable uppers and the lowers with the height adjustment. That would be one way to save some money for other things rather than buying the more expensive MM Lowers. I would also suggest the Strage adjustable shocks and struts. They work great for the street and stip. They make street driving much better than a set of 90/10's.
If you just messing around at the track all you really need to unhook is the sway bar end links that connect to the lower control arms. It's only 4 more bolts to completly remove it if you really want to.

If PBF is willing to install the gears, rebuild the t lok and put the bearings in for $275 I would just have them do that for now. Since you have all of the stuff.

The ET streets aren't a drag radial but a DOT "legal" racing tire. They are bias ply construction vs the steel belting used in radial tires. Basically they have just enough tread depth to be street legal and would probably be fine on a dry road but as you know in FL it can rain at a drop of a hat. Not sure how they would handle then. But it sounds like you will have a seperate set of 10 holes for the ET streets so that should be just fine.

Like kck6894 said the strange adjustables are nice cause they are well, adjustable and you aren't locked into one setting all the time. If you have time and don't want to get your lcas right now you can hunt around. I picked up my MM adjustables for $150 off of ebay. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/rlca.asp
i got the mmrlca-2s. If you have the time it can be a great way to bargain shop. But otherwise MM stuff is expensive but it is good.

building your suspension is always a good thing, but I cant see going crazy with it on stock power. I would cut the budget in half, and get the LCAs, and sfcs, and the tires, and then spend the other half on bolt-ons and the like.

And I cant really see your car hitting low 13s. Youll have a sick launch, but I dont think youll have the mph for a low 13. But theres only one way to find out.

k thanks alot for the advice guys, i just need alittle guidness to know what direction to go in. i still want to go crazy with my suspension though, even if i dont have the power to get me 1.6 60' times. I just want to build it and have it there, and slowly do the power once its done.

Next week im going to take my car in to get the gears done, i cant wait! How long do you guys think it would take? should i make an appointment? I need to drive to work and only have off tue. and wed. you think they can do it in that time if i call and scheduale?

Do i NEED adjustable uppers for the eibachs?

And should i go with the drag MM lowers? or the standard? I really like MM parts so im going to try to make most of my drivetrain parts from them cause i like there quality even if i have to pay more

And ive been reading around and im convinsed on the strange adjustbles, BUT where do i buy them?!?! i havent found any venders for mustangs, and idk what the name is, are they the 10 way adjustble struts? And sould i get the strange shocks and struts? can you guys give me some more info please like part name and where i can buy them, thanks!

forget the car what about the driver. no offence but i dont see 13's on your first time at the track. maybe with practice. either way good luck its alot of fun.

Oh dude i know, I still need to learn how to launch my car, im not expecting 13's the first time i go out there.. im going this wednesday if it dosent rain, im expecting like a mid 15 the first time i run, but hopfully by the time my suspension is built i will have learned to launch it and shift, and i know im not gonna be perfect but ill be learning

Id like to try to head out to the track everyweekend, the only reason im jut now going is cause ill be off my probation this monday, and my 6pm curfew is GONE! and im free, so i cant wait to go, and ill be so pissed if it rains

Gears should be in and out the same day. It only took Lamotta's one day. Dropped it off that morning and picked it up that afternoon. The only thing that might make it take longer would be the t lok rebuild and bearing install but still should be in and out quick I would think. Mine was just a gear install.

Here is a link for the strange shocks and struts.

Let me know if you are gonna head out to the track and I might make a run out there

Hey man, aslong as it dosent rain, im DEFANITLY going to the track, and i have a question

Ive been hearing the strange struts are better because of the adjustablitly, but is the soft setting gonna get me the same traction as lakewoods?

I heard to get 50/50 in the rear and strange for the front should i get them all around?

And will my car kinda lift up? I want my car to just shoot up and throw all the weight in the back, id rather have awesome traction and ok driveabilty then good driveabilty and good traction

Why a curfew?

Its part of the program... One of my sanctions i must complete or i go straight to court and get tried by in front of a judge

I got arrested for possesion of 20 grams of marijuana whitch is a felony here (though the guy who sold it to me said it was only 14 grams so i think they droped the felony cause it really wasent 20) Anyways, i got put on the pay program never had to go in a court room or see a judge.

I had to do some things, 10hrs comunity service, write an article, go to a bootcamp, drug class, and go to a counsler, and not leave my house pass 6pm unless its with a parent.

I posted a thread about this a while ago, for everyone who said i wouldnt be able to do it im imature and a dumb kid, congratulations, i went from smoking everyday for 2 months to being clean for 3 months and will have no problem continuing to stay clean :nice: Guy is coming tomorrow to close my case, i cant wait!
