Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Fenders

I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies that sell Fiberglass or CarbonFiber Fenders? How is the final fitment and look of the parts? Are they worth it for that much weight savings? Can you paint a carbon fiber piece so you dont see the ugly fiber look?

There is a guy around here that has fiberglass fenders, the passenger side has a vent in it to bring in cool air to his Vortec supercharger, very nice looking and the fit is great.
I'll talk to him and see where he got them.

i doubt you'll save more than 5lbs with a fiberglass fender, and carbon fiber is for ricers, and also at least 300.00 each fender...you better get out your wallet, oh yeah you seem to like this stuff, check out mrbodykit.com i bet you'll find something to your liking..eh

NO! I dont like those style fenders. I think its stupid to say just because a fender a body panel is made of carbon fiber that its for ricers. I just want to save weight and have more clearance for 275 inch tires. I would like to paint the carbon fiber actually I hate the look of it but, I know its light and strong.

Would a carbon fiber driveshaft be a ricer driveshaft? I dont understand when something is made alittle modern or updated from the 80's or 90's its ricer. I think people should be alittle more open minded about updates. If people weren't open minded then some of the awesome retro mod classics wouldnt be around that changed how we look at classic cars.

its just not worth it....the fiberglass fender would probably be the same as the steel, so the tires will have no help there...just roll em.

Actually you need the 91+ front fenders with the larger wheel openings if you dont already have a 91+ car. Its a big, but not noticible difference...Trust me i have both on my car

There are also the capri fenders with the flares....anyone know if they have extra room??

No.....but close.
I am thinking of the White GT with Gold/Pearl ghost flames, 4 lug Cobra R's. You can check it out at Installations Unlimited in North Syracuse....its sitting in there show room. I think the vent was rounded but you get the idea.

I'm not sure of the vent yet its too big of a body shock to me at this point. I have to let it try to grown on me first. lol
I was the same way when the 99 mustangs came out it took me a bit to come around.

I have a 89 coupe and was thinking about switching to 91-93 fenders.I came across a man who makes carbon fenders with a 2 inch flare, they arent cheap though. They let you run 275s up front and he also has a flare for the quarters that matches the front just to even out the look. The weight is a 5lb decrease which isnt alot but, you can run big tires.The price is 1400 for the fenders which is insane for fenders. I'd rather put 91-93 fenders and roll and cut the lower trim. Heres the link the quality looks excellent and they can be smoothed and painted to match.

Anyway, I had a stock style carbon fiber hood for my last car ('95 GT) and the fit was perfect. It did have the "weave" on the underside. I had the outside painted the same as the car (yellow), as well as the underhood bracing. MUCH lighter. I said all this to say, YES, carbon fiber panels CAN be painted to match. Mine matched perfectly & you could not tell it was anything other than stock unless you popped the hood.

bditty, thats an interesting look. Not sure I like it that much though. I'd have to see it painted and at a distance. Its a neat idea, but $1400 for some fenders is ridiculous

Yeah its alot to spend I agree for not that much of a weight advantage. You figure I bought my car for 5500 and if I spend 1400 on fenders it seems like way too much lol. Fiberglass weighs the same so theres no point. I'm thinking 91 fenders rolled a bit and or trimmed to fit 275 up front.
