fiberglass paint preping

in about ready to paint my 65 coupe but first i need to 'prep' my hood and front valence. they are both gelcoated black. what do i need to do to prep this for paint? sand it rough or what? thanks guys

Use a rough pad and use that to rough the panels up. Then just make sure to tack it down so it's all clean.

A rough pad like a scotch brite pad. You will then want to wipe it down with a cleaner such as 3812 to remove and oily resudue from your fingers as well as anything else that may be on the panels
