fiberglass vs. polyurathane

fiberglass chips thats why they make polyurethene. i believe the poly is a bit lighter, but poly is just more for the upkeep of your body kit.

poly is also hella stronger, and much more flexible... meaning, it's made to get a beating, and look as good as it does the day you get it, that's why it's 3 times more though...

why would poly be more up keep? It is what the factory front and rear of your car is made of. Poly is a lot lighter than fiberglass.
actually, with the thickness of aftermarket body kits made of polyurethane, the same bumper made of fiberglass would actually weigh less. as for which is better, i would always tell you polyurethane. bump a curb with a fiberglass bumper and you will see why. the only thing is, the polyurethane bumper needs to be prepped and painted properly otherwise the paint will start peeling.

I like fiberglass myself, but didn't like the looks of stalker fiberglass cover. As for weight the difference isn't enough to worry with for a street car. Also fiberglass can be fixed with ease...not so with poly. And so you know, they will not hold up to a deer while your running about 65mph.

I have been thinkin about getting the 2000 cobra r buumper but they only come in fiberglass right now.

I had the stalker for awhile, it was urethane. You could twist it all around without it cracking or tearing. I hit something with it though, and it tore right where it screws into the fender on both sides and the thing ended up face down the road. I'll buy another one eventually.
That bumper used to take alot of abuse since it's lower than the stock and sticks out further on the bottom. I was coming out of IHOP one day and the parking lot had a mean angle to the road, the bumper hit the road damm hard, with enough force to snap both of the bolts on the retaining bars that held the bumber out and stable. It I just put new bolts in and the thing was back in shape and looking good.
ANyway, I would stay away from fiberglass generally, but the point about fiberglass being easily repaired is a good one. Still, it would be hard to match some heavy curvature if it were to rupture.

a point to consider....urethane is too flexable to give any sort of downforce improvement....not that this matters for street cars...but if they were interested in turning your car into a road race car than fiberglass is the way to go there....but anyways...street cars definatly go with urethane....will take much more of a beating than fiberglass...

So what do you think of the saleen style front bumper then? Anyone have pics? I'm looking for speed, so would the downforce really matter that much, or would poly be the best then?
