I have a fenderwell kit for my car. Would I have better gains by having the filter in the fenderwell, or deleting the fenderwell piping and having it closer to my Pro-M bullet (in the engine bay)?
There might be a 1 or 2 hp. difference if that so in that light it really doesn't matter, but you will get slightly colder air from the fenderwell, so I'd just say leave it how it is.
Stick it in the fenderwell. If that isn't possible, put it as close to the fenderwell as possible and fab up some type of heat shield or block off plate that will isolate the filter from the engine bay. You don't want the hot air from the engine being sucked into the filter if you can help it.
I just rode around for around 30 mins with the filter in the bay close to the MAF (yes I reset the computer). It slowed down, and pinged ALOT more than it did when in the fenderwell. The first thing I did when I got home tonight was put the fenderwell pipe back in. Nice experiment.
The fenderwell is a much better aircharge, as your test proved....i stuffed mine in the fenderwell...fan wash was causing hot start probs, it started right after i added H/C....
