This past week I finally got the 351w I wanted o get the whole summer. Its a '79 block from an Econoline. I have it mostly disassembled, and I wanted to know from you experts what I should ask for when I take it to the machine shop, like cleaning the block, etc. Also, should I keep the stock crank or go forged? Everything else will be forged, and ready for spray or a blower.

I would take it to the machine shop and have it cleaned up real good including oil passages and all, and then measure everything to make sure the block is ready for serious power. Bore and hone the cylinders, align hone the mains, all the normal machine work. I don't know enough about engine prep maching to say. After that you will know what other parts to buy to complete the build. As far as the crank is concerned if you do a crank, go ahead and stroke it out to a 392-408. I have heard the stock 351 crank is suposed to be really strong.
