Finally Got me A Mustang!!!

I got my first car last week, and once the seat is replaced I can get it either tomorrow or thursday. Its a '96 Mustang GT Convertible. And waiting to drive it is "driving" me crazy. This is how I feel right now :spot: like struttin.

Are there any downsides to having a convertible though, and is it worth it to buy a roll bar?

And does anyone have suggestions for how to keep good care of it?
The guy i bought it from has kept really good care of it already so I dont want to let it go downhill.

congrats on the car! have fun with it. As far as taking care of it, as long as you change the oil wash it and wax it, general maintainance, you should be good to go. I don't know about the roll bar. The light bar the everyone gets is for looks I believe, and that's up to you whether or not it's worth it. good luck :nice:

Congrats! 1996 is a good year (no matter what anyone tells you!). I've never owned a Vert but I'm sure that are a couple draw backs i.e. louder road noise, colder weather, yada yada yada.....but y'know what? The positives SERIOUSLY out-weigh the negatives. When summer hits you'll be looking for a reason to drive! Just wait till the horsepower bug gits ya! Welcome to the club!

99- verts need subframe connectors stat! that's the first thing you should do. if the previous owner installed some make sure they are full lenght and are welded in.

also front strut tower bar is needed, and rear is pretty good to have, but with the rear you would lose some trunk space

i used to have stepped subframe connectors welded on my vert and it was stiff and nice... now that i took em off i can definately feel the difference... i heard good things about the strut tower bar too!

You've now entered into a realm that is compared to being a drug addict. A Mustang will consume your every thought, and every dime. It will only get worse as time passes. You will not be able to stop. Your money will not be "money" anymore, you'll count it as how many mods and accessories you can get. You'll spend way too much time on Mustang forums all accross the internet. You will begin to skip shaving. You will begin to get within just seconds of being late to work or school. You will begin to look at everyone at stop-lights in a new way. The Mustang is like the Devil and it will not stop until it consumes your soul. You will begin to use mod and motor jargain that no-one else will understand. You will find ways to give rides to people you know, only to find that you already have and just forgot. You will find yourself cruising to the local grocery store to get things that you already have, at 3 in the morning. You will find that you take care of it and worry over it as if it were a child. She will make you laugh, and she will make you cry. Your life as you know it is about to change forever.

But other than that, congrats, and welcome to the Stang Gang !! :nice:

As far as i know there were no mods done by the previous owner (however Im looking already to see what i could do) I got it for $7,500 It has 60k miles and looks almost brand new, with a custom paint job, he replaced the drivers seat as the seat controls wore out, redisced the brakes and he bought a brand new top for it.

My only problem with modding it would be that I have yet to know enough about cars to even know where to start and as i just bought a car I have limited funds available. but eventually i'll figure out what i want to do next, I was thinking about a body kit but right now I dont have enough money and it would cost even more to match the paint which has metal fleks in it and on the front it forms a flame around the sides of the hood. So for now Im just going to leave it as is.

cut them off... my eyes were wattery as i watched them take them off... had to do it, because i had gotten the Roush magnaflow setup and that didn't work well with the Spintech subframe connectors

i am saving up for the roush subframe connectors...(i am student so money comes slow) and i am going to get those welded in, even though they only have to be bolted on

Road noise and cold weather doesn't pose a problem Granted, you'll be able to hear more of what's going on around you, but nothing to the extreme. As for cold weather, it was 10 above 0 a few days ago and I couldn't tell the difference from the old '97 and my '03 vert. It's not as breezy as you'd think. Those tops seal real well. Another thing I noticed while driving home in the ice storm we had Sunday (or it might just be me), the vert handled better on slick roads. I'm guessing it's do the added weight. Congrats on your vert. You'll love it when it warms up outside. (and so will everyone else)

I cannot tell you how many times I have been driving with the top down in D.T. Gainesville on Fri-Sat night and have been compliminted by some seriously gorgeous women. Reason? They can't tell you so openly when it's a coupe or with the windows rolled down, I have talked with so many people at lights and on corners it pretty cool. As NITEMAREGT puts it,

He is telling the truth. I look everyday for an excuse to drop the top and take a cruise either around town or out of the city to get some fresh air. I also have been known to take a small trip on the interstate at 70+ when it's around 30 degrees.....I can't describe the adrenaline rush that will give ya! :banana: :banana: :banana: Yes, I know I am crazy...


1. Keep that top clean!!! Nothing looks worse than a dirty top. You can purchase special cleaning supplies at almost any auto car establishment.

2. Make sure you keep the interior clean. Mine gets twice as dirty because of the top being down. Wasn't the case in my 01' coupe.

I'll think of more stuff to post for sure...just got to work and I can't let the "Bob's" see me.

Congrats man! I too will be joiing the club soon and am looking to buy a vert. You're makin me jealous, haha :) Seriously tho, enjoy your ride adn take care of her, and she'll treat you well for many years to come! Have fun man and congrats once more!
