I would be interested in knowing how you decided upon the Whipple vs. the other SC options as my SC fund is growing steadily and I should be ready to buy this summer.

Thanks,

If you do a search on the boards, your bound to find many MANY threads on this very topic. In my opinion and to my knowledge it all really boils down to the following:
-Centrifuge SCers (Vortech, Paxton, etc.): Build HP with RPM's making excellent higher RPM HP and great for on the track.
-Roots (GT500)/Twin Screw (Whipple, Kenny Bell): Almost instant torque, most of it by 2k RPMs; great for a daily drives/"big block" power out of small block engine.
-Turbo: best of both worlds?

In the end it was simple for me. I was originally going with a Paxton from Shelby, but once the Whipple became available I knew I wanted it. Since researching the topic for years, I figured a roots/twin screw suited my needs (near daily driver - not much track time and certainly not a serious racer) perfectly. Just my 0.02.

I have kicked around the idea of supercharging for the past few weeks and it could be in my future within the next year.

But I was wondering if any of you guys got extra insurance to cover the supercharger? I mean some of you are paying $5-7 K for your superchargers, another $1.5 K to install, not to mention $400 - $500 for gauges, and another $500 for a custome tune. Thats a LOT of money.

Your looking at around $8000 in a lot of cases plus the money tied up in other areas of the car. It would really suck to have a wreck and get the car totalled with all the equipment damaged including the supercharger.

What do you guys think about that, do any of you have any insurance on your mods? I don't even know if you could get insurance on that kind of stuff but if you could I'm sure it would be worth it.

Thats a great question and I'll be meeting with my insurance agent in the next few weeks to discuss this very topic. Being it winter she doesn't see many miles of road way so I held off a bit on any "extra" coverage until it gets nicer out. I did however pick up new car replacement the day I bought the car. My agent told me that whatever I paid in total for the car (total price including trade, money down, etc.) would be included in the plan...on the cheap too!

Okay...so why Whipple instead of KB? I don't mean to be so personal...just curious!

The Whipple was offered from Shelby, the KB was not.

I guess you could argue either way, but the Whipple is produced in conjunction with Ford Racing. If your not planning to do a custom tune any time soon, a FRPP racing tune comes with the S/Cer - piece of mind?

...the KB probably comes with an SCT so it could be just as good or better...

Personal preference in the end really (that and shop options as I was limited by the shop - none the less happy as all h8LL).

The Whipple kit comes with a GT500 dual fuel pump/wiring harness kit. KB comes with a voltage booster The Whipple also has everything like cooler spark plugs, larger heat exchanger, larger intercooler. It's just a more complete kit and costs about the same.
