Finished install of PI intake

Just finished up the install of the PI intake with the adapter plates. It took around I quess about 5 hrs. I now next time if I ever have to do this I will wear gloves. I look like a cat attack me. Anyway the job was not too hard. I did by myself. I actually find that the cams were easier to install compared to the intake. Car runs good, but I am taking it easy until it is tuned (T&J). I will say one thing it does sound different. Actually louder.

The reason I wanted the adapters is so I can put a blower on in the future. Here are some pictures of the installation. It is a well worth bolt-on mod for NPI guys.

Funny how everybody comments on the radiator pipes. Thanks thou. Anyway I ordered them from Dallas Mustang. Comes with the both the top and bottom hoses. It helps clean up under the hood a little.

Looks awesome! What kind of parts did you need to do the swap? Did you need a new intake plenum?

Nope. I used my old intake plenum and throttle body. The whole swap came as a kit. Coolant tube, water pump nipple, intake, and bolts. I do need a tune thou. After doing the swap I looked back and realize I should of just did the headswap. Pretty much everything was taken off except for the heads and front cover. Oh well I quess I will see how it runs after the tune. Thanks for the compliment.

why did u remove the water pump??? when I did mine I did not have to remove the pump?

Also u said this was easier than the cam swap?? That makes me a little releived I thought the intake swap was rather straightforward but the cam swap worrys me a little bit......

what cams did u go with ?? PI?

I removed the water pump because I put the new coolant nipple in. When you change out the nipple it has to be punched out towards the radiator. Only took couple of minutes to remove the pulley and the pump. The cam swap was easier because I used the Anderson tool and it only took a little less than two hrs. I put in the Comp Cams

haha sorry if i sounded obnoixous w/ the radiator pipe question. Very cool dude, and a very well done job. Have fun w/ the PI heads, and do the comp cams you used give a good idle sound???? which ones did you use??

The Comp Cams sound great at idle. It gives it a nice lope sound to it. I have a video of it right after I installed them. The idle is a little fast in the video because it was a cold start. The Cams are 268H. Thanks for the compliment.

what are the benefits of the comp cams over the pi cams?

where did you get the adapter plates and how much did they cost?? I want to do a blower later on as well so it would probably be a good idea. but i bet it costs a whole lot more.

The benefits is that there is a lot more duration than the PI cams which help big time in the upper rpm range (where our NPI cars always run out of breath). The cams will help the engine all the way up to roughly 5500 rpm with the old NPI intake. Now with the PI intake it will hit 6000 rpm much easier. Plus you get the nice lopey sound along with the Comp Cams.

The cams do not need the new Valve springs. The lift that is involved with these cams is less than the PI cams. My cam card stated I have .495" lift while PI cams are usually around the area of .517" lift. The added duration of the Comp Cams is what helps out with the upper end of the powerband.

The MAF is the stock one painted black to clean it up. What this is called is the Darkwolf Mod. By having the 90 degree bend in the CAI the MAF gets the wrong readings from the disturbed bend causing the computer to run the motor rich. By turning the MAF to the side 90 degrees it will sense less of the disturbed flow of the incoming air and help lessen the rich fuel. This only works on CAI with this type of bend into the fender. It works for some cars but not others, but it did for mine.

You can upgrade but is not required. There is not that much lift involved with these type of cams. Just duration. These cams can be compared to SHM 2730 drop replacement series cam. They both run the same lift but the SHM duration is 230/230 while the Comps are 230/236. Thanks for the compliments.
