Fired her up. Long story.

Welcome to the world of modding cars. LOL No major job is ever painless. I'm going through the process of replacing all my bushings. :bang:

More likely than not it's something simple. It usually is...

Also check all your wires and plugs. Make sure there isn't an ignition problem. Also make sure all your fuel injectors are connected properly.

throw a vacuum guage on it and see what its reading at idle. I just got my new motor together and running and had the same problems. i couldnt get my vacuum any higher than about 16" at idle. Also, how long has it been sittin...maybe its something stupid like a fuel filter or sh1tty gas, i had those problems too. good luck man hope u get her runnin

Its only been sittin for a month. I can rev her up and stuff but idle is surging hard.
I cant measure vacuum because it wont even idle at one RPM value, it fluctuates.

The fuel was 93 octane, it should still be at least 92 octane after a month.

Fuel filter was replaced less than a year ago.

If it is vacuum than i am stumped because i cant find it :(

But she sounds mean as hell when i rev :nice:

Does anyone know what that plastic vacuum tree near the AC canistor in the passenger side engine bay is? Because 3 of 4 of those lines went to EGR and the 4th goes to the main vacuum tree B/B, A/C, B/R etc... I unplugged it from B/R and it didnt do anything. Whats it for?

I dont know if the carb cleaner technique will work because it surges so much that even if i spray carb cleaner to make it surge ill just assume its the ECU doing it. The surge is so profound that i wouldnt be able to tell a carb cleaner surge from the ECU trying to surge.

About the timing, i posted a new thread on it. Its really odd but my timing is showing 40 degrees with spout out. I think its purely a visual error, my car couldnt be running at 40 degrees. i.e the pointer, or timing light messed up perhaps?

Am I reading this correctly? It sounds as if you mean that you disconnected a vac line, allowed it to suck air, and that it made no difference in idle?

If that is correct then you need to take a good hard look at all your vac lines. Something is disconnected, broken, or misrouted.

Edit: You may also want to start disconnecting all non-essential vac systems and plugging the lines one by one until you find the culprit.

Im sorry i wasnt so clear.

The vacuum tree on the passenger side of the engine bay towards the firewall has 4 lines coming out of it. 3 are for EGR which have been disconnected for the past year and the last one leads to the main vacuum tree where the brake booster is located. I unplugged that line and plugged the hole on the main tree. This line is now not experiencing any vacuum and nothing changed. thats what i mean.

Also, I hear a really high pitch whistle from the rear side of the manifold. It sounds like i just describe it, someone is blowing into a kids toy that makes a whistle sound. I dont know exactly where its coming from but sounds like i hit the spot. It could be the injector O-ring but i greased all those up so it couldnt be that. I will keep you updated.

Going by just your description, I'd say it's pretty likely that your lower intake rear seal is leaking. I was going to mention the PCV grommet too but I can't imagine that causing the kinds of problems that you describe.

Ok i think you may be mistaken about that little vaccuum tree on the pass side. To clarify...we are talkin about that fourway connector? if so one of them goes to the upper intake, one (or two maybe) go to the check valves on the air pump lines (if you still have that), and ONE goes to the EGR valve. I would focus your efforts around that high pitch whistling...thats def not a good thing. Did you use the rubber intake seal or silicone? If you used the rubber seals did you throw a bit of silicone in the corners? I would try trackin down that whistle and go from there. good luck

When i installed the lower i used the cork and assloads of RTV. Ive used the cork before and it worked just fine. I put sealant on all surfaces. Aroung the water jackets on the head and around the ports on the gasket. Sealant is everywhere in there.

I got her to idle, a little high but she idles.
I cleaned out the IAC and adjusted the throttle plate, she idles at around 950-1000 now but surging has been reduced. I took her for a ride and i can feel the power but she needs a tune really bad.

Dyno tomorrow!

Is it still making the noise?

What side did you put rtv on the gasket ports?

Try retorquing the bolts (dont loosen them).

Yes i put RTV sealant on all sides, every axis of the three dimensions is covered with sealant. I made sure that sealant was there.

I torqued them down a little more and it helped a little. I did indeed get her to idle because i cleaned out my IAC and adjusted the throttle plate. Im happy about this and im tired at the same time. It still hasnt hit me yet that my car finally runs. i waited almost 2 whole months under the impression that it will never happen. You guys helped me out a lot too.

Thanks everyone.

No problem.
