Hey guys, I am installing my firewall adjuster and have a question as to what the directions mean when they say "silicone sealant". It says to put a bead of silicone sealant on the back face of the firewall plate (the plate that mounts against the engine bay side of the hole). It also says to use silicone sealant on the inside threads of the lock nut part of the adjuster. My question is what specifically are they referring to when they say silicone sealant?

Thanks for the help!

Any silicon based sealant. Available in small or large tubes at any building supply/hardware store. Generally used to give a water tight seal.

They are talking about Black Silicone. You get it at the auto parts store.

I wouldn't think color or the source is important. Black, white or clear. No matter what the application, a sealant has three basic functions.

1. It fills a gap between two or more substrates.

2. It forms a barrier through the physical properties of the sealant itself and by adhesion to the substrate.

3. It maintains sealing properties for the expected lifetime, service conditions and environments.
