Hey guys, woke up at 5:30 this morning. Unfortunetly im going to have to disapoint you guys and tell you I didnt take my car. I went with my buddys hatch, my friend with an older 200sx se-r, and his brothers 240sx, both have stock everything with heavy suspension mods.

My friends hatch has ls vtec motor, pretty damn quick(keeps up with my car on the street), gsr brakes, gsr suspension, etc.

You had to be 18 to race but they were very laid back, the tech consisted of them asking you if your battery was strapped down and if you had all your lug nuts, they didnt even check, so it was laid back. There was only about 20 cars in, and it went from like 8:30 to 12:00 so we got like more then 25 runs in, because theres 3 cars on the track at a time. This is including taking breaks and sitting down watching. They had rist bands so I didnt get to race till the end. My friend ripped his off and I put it on my arm. I will say, it was the funnest thing ive ever done. The civic is a beast on the turns, I was in 2nd gear the whole race and never let off the gad except the few times I had to brake around a turn, then it was back to flooring it, and flying through turns, the end straight away is pretty short, but some guy clocked us at about 54mph. I noticed it was different from drag racing because drag racing is more a of an adrenaline rush, this was more of being concentrated, knowing what your doing, you dont have time to feel a rush, you have to pay attention to detail. I loved it, in a month or two I am taking my car.

At first I snuck into a very good picture taking spot, right next to the cars, but I guess it was dangerous haha so they yelled at me and kicked me out of there, the reason I went was to see what it was all about, and of course get awesome pictures, but they ruined that for us because where they set us up for spectators was the worst spot in the world. Well enough talking, who reads this anyways, heres the pics.

Oh and I want to clarify, I was "kind of" an autocross, it wasent a big parking lot with cones, it seemed more like a gokart track with cones, it was VERY cool.

Here is a few of my friend racing.

Pictures taken with Canon 20D, hopfully by the time I take my car my friend will have a good zoom lense for it so we can get good pics. It was cruising down the highway in a group, but I really did miss my car, I had alot of fun though.

Anyone else been autocrossing? If not find a place near you, its ALOT of fun, im going to be setting my car up for turns, while still breaking 12's with slicks :nice:

Cool what are you getting? I dont mind beating on my car, its just the brakes, tires, and suspension, where as drag racing is rear end, suspension, tranny, engine, tires

I really cant wait to get out there and do it again in my car, its SOO much fun.

Hey 5.0's 4ever do you know any autocross places anywhere near by? That track is about 1.5 hours from my house, pain in the ass. Online world sucks for autocross info, and come on were in orlando there has to be autocross events in some parking lot, even if some puerto ricans set it up lol.

Yep, amazing camera, very user friendly, you can have no expierence in picture taking with just a good eye, and they will look like pro shots. And understanding the settings are easy so you can learn to use the manual setting very quick. Its expensive but well worth the investment.

Its been a couple years since I have been into autocross. Back then a lot of people were having events over on the space coast, which is another long drive.
I'll check around to see if anyone is doing any events around orlando even if its in a parking lot.

kk cool, I really wouldnt even know where to look, my friend with the 200sx told me about this one so I was look cool i'll go, maybe we can meet up somewhere and have alittle stangnet club haha, even if its just two people

This is the official site for this area. There used to be events in Palm Bay and at Valencia, but they lost Palm Bay because of some idiots. I'm not sure what happened to the Valencia Community College site. I used to do a little AutoX but wasn't very competitive, but it was still a blast. :nice:

Hmm valencia would be cool thats kinda close to me, Ive looked at that site, but Its scca, so I dont think they have the little autocross events, they didnt even have the gainsville test and tune event on there.

Autocrossing is a blast, but gets old fast after experiencing big open track events. Its good to learn the basics in a low speed environment where its "safer".

Safety is the key word here... its a little wierd that they didn't actually look at the car during the tech inspection. Even more unnerving hearing that you snuck into the actual event as a participant... As long as no one was hurt i suppose it doesn't matter but im sure they have their rules for a reason. Its the "what if" that no one wants to have to deal with... know what i mean?

Good luck getting your car on the track! Remember, seat time is key... dont throw parts at the car until your ability is greater than the cars :)

I guess I see what you mean. There are alot of classes that run so you'd likely only get 4 runs for the day, but Saturdays are usually a practice day. Yes they are SCCA sanctioned, give out trophies, and year end awards. They run at Deland airport, some site in Brooksville, and hopefully soon, the Valkaria airport, usually 1 event per month. I'm not sure when they lost the VCC site. Tech is a little more involved, but not much. They do verify that the battery is secure(actually they try to rip it out....a little scary at first), they check for a sticky throttle, look at the tires, make you remove center caps, verify you have a helmet to use, etc.

The advantage of going to the bigger events is that they have at least 2 driving instructors that will ride with and tell you what you did wrong, how to do it better then drive your car(if you allow them) and show you how it should be done.

And Prez1967's statement about seat time and throwing parts at the car is spot on!:nice:

Yea i wouldnt have minded a better tech because it is my saftey. Thats really cool that they ride in the car with you. I dont think my car is up for the task yet though, I would drive it way to hard and it wouldnt be able to hand on, I think im gonna wait till I get an antiroll bar, and a panhardbar then ill take it out.
