Well, this was my first "race" in the new car last night, it was a major rush I must say! I was heading home on the hwy last night and an SS pulled up next to me with some younger kids and they were playin with me, I played a bit too by gooseing it a bit, they wanted to race right there but there is no way...friday night traffic was heavy, I wont race like that...to much potential for disaster, so in traffic i got in front of them and just crused a bit...they followed me to a exit that is a long 3 mile deserted bypass loop connecting two highways, it really only serves the GM plant. there was no one behind us but for some reason the kid didnt want to stop and run it from a stop. His passenger yelled out the window that I should honk three times...we would go on the third honk, I was to do the honking...seemed stupid to me. I had to concentrate on keeping pace with him...finding my gear and honking, then jumping on it...lol..

I put her in third gear at about 35 MPH, and did my honking, the kid dropped it into 2nd and launched, his car was screamin, i watched it torque up and lift up in his suspension, he got about 1 1/2 cars on me right then. I was a lil low in my power band so i only held my ground. I hit 4th and started to pull on him. i stayed in 4th the whole time as i caught up to him, stayed even then pulled a car lenght in front of him....i was so wrapped up in the race i actully hit the 6500 redline cut off...i didnt even know i hadnt shifted, but the car was pullin so hard i wasnt thinking. I hit 5th and kept puttin car lenghts on him. Its like after he hit fourth he lost his pullin power. At about three lenghts he shut it down, i did too at about 140mph. He pulled up and his passenger gave me a "Hell ya" and a wave and that was it.

My first race and kill was a good one for me....it was good to see what the car had, but i definately need to work on payin attention to my surroundings...alot of tunnel vision on my part....lol

3rd gear @ 35mph is way out of your powerband with the stock gearing. I have 4.10's and thats still way out of my powerband. Had you started off in second, you would have immediently pulled on him.

we were rolling and graduly slowing down because i realy felt like i was in the sweet spot before we dropped the hammer, but speed had bled by the time we got started...I learned...I also see the importance of a shift light too...i dont think i looked at rpms or speed until it was almost over....lol

All in all i was pretty proud of my stock cobra...made up for my defiencies quickly
