First Times for the car. Respectable?

So the story goes this is my first time on the track ever. I am in a bone stock 2002 gt with only an off road x pipe. I was able to pull off a 9.561 on the 1/8th @ 76.6 mph. I was just curious does this time correspond with how the stock car is supposed to run?

What were your 60' times?Thats about right for your first time out on a near stock GT.Practice launching and shifting and bring those 60' times down if they need improving, and youll click off a little faster of a run.

i know, like i said it was my first time on the track period. much less the cars first time. eh i messed up on that one. woulda been a WAY better time had i gotten a better launch...

And trust me i wasnt proud of that 2.4 heh

That's the thing about the track--you aren't going to crack off amazing times on the first attempt. Totally different launching setup when at the track especially if it is prepped properly.

There is a lot to breaking good runs. Shift points, and launches are the two most important in a stock car. Shifting about 5 grand is the limit. Some people assume shifting at redline is optimal but the stock engine falls off at around 4700. Launches are a science depending on track and grip. I try to launch at 2500 on street tires but slip the hell out of the clutch. Bad for clutch but good for 2.0 sixties.

stock if you were running it really really really well i mean running her hard and nailing all shift points and launching good you could run like a 9.0 but trust me dude thats very very hard to do lol. heck i still hit 9.0s now with all my mods and 2 years of practice lol. practice makes perfect. my first time in a stock car my best was a 9.3 but my 60' was a 2.2. but my very first run down the track was a 9.4.

so your not doing too bad. just go back to the track some more and keep practicing it will come its all about seat time. Hope you had a good time though.

Don't feel bad dude, first time I went to the track with my 02 mustang gt when it was stock I did 16.02 sec 1/4 miles. I still remember . Just don't try to brake worldrecord in just few runs. :nice:

Thats not too bad! The first time I took mine I ran a 9.2 with regular street tires, and then a 9.1 with my buddies M/T drag radials, with some slow:shrug: 60 ft. times. Im sure I could of gotten down a little faster but we ran out of time. I have a BBK X pipe and a c&l plenum!

Not a bad fist time out at all mang, slipping the clutch with street tires is key and hitting those shift points.

I remember my first time out, I was nervous as hell. I went through the waterbox with street tires (1st mistake) and then dropped the clutch from about 3k....it was ugly, I ran a 10ish in the 1/8.

Even now when I go I have butterflies right before my first pass, just from the adrenaline I get from going.
