ok ..i did my first two mods to any car ive owned this week...i added an MGW shifter and an FIPK gen II to my 2002 gt vert...love em both and wont bore anyone with whats already been said..

the question is this...i was thinking of getting an accufab TB and a c&l plen...i dont really want to get into the exhaust ..a catted h pipe is a bit to $ right now and i want to wait till summer is over for the underdrive pulleys. ablut how much could i gain from the tb and plen with the FIPK?

thanks alot! tony

If you get a plenum, get the one from Accufab to go with the throttle body. Numerous tests were done over at Modular Depot and the Accufab was the leader of all plenums in terms of hp and torque gains. As for how much power you can expect, most get about 7-10rwhp. Some get as much as 12. It all depends. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

tb /plen

is that hp number for both parts or just one? the reason i ask is someone told me about 20hp could be added which i didnt really believe. plus the ads say 8-12hp for the tb(?) and up to 20for the plen. could be vice versa though..im trying to stay away from gears right now- its a bit much for what i want to get out of the car.

Those are not real world numbers. The throttle body and the plenum together will probably add about 7-10rwhp as I said. Possibly 12 on a car that has every bolt on under the sun. If the car is supercharged, then yeah, you might see 20hp between both of them over the stock setup, but not on a n/a setup you won't. As for gears, what exactly do you mean by "its a bit much for what I want to get out of the car"? Gears are without a doubt the best bang for the buck. No question.

In this one test the Accufab did make more power, but in reality all ended up even.

Just a quick note. That test was done over a stock plenum that had been ported and polished. Thats good for a few hp as well. So figure that in there.

EDIT: I just now checked it out. It appears as though they did aquire a stock piece for the final tests. So, nevermind.

So what your saying is that you don't sell Accufab? :rlaugh:

What?

The Accufab is awesome. I'm not knocking it at all. My point is that too many people that don't understand that MD test are citing it as gospel. All that test shows is that all fall at almost the exact same HP when you take the dyno data scatter into consideration.
That's about all the test proves is that they are about the same and you should purchase on price and looks.

Ya the first test with the 70mm throttle body was too close to call, retesting on another day, would more likely than not, give different results. Although the second test with the 75mm throttle body also had the Accufab come out on top, by 2 HP, which again, really isn't enough to call it a winner.
But, on the other hand, having a throttle body combo gaining 4.72 Hp over stock, then take the dyno data scatter into consideration, it really doesn't appear to be a great investment. Unless you plan on doing a lot of mods in the future to make better use of that bigger Throttle body.

Oh, I was just :stick: about the Accufab. I like the looks of both of them, but I like the price of the Dragon better :nice:

Ok. I dont mean to get a bit off topic, but can anyone tell me the typical prices of each of the major plenums on the market ? I know the Accufab is the most expensive, but some general price ranges would be nice.

BTW, since I'm good at polishing and I know I'm not the only one, has anyone else ported one of these aftermarket plenums and got them polished to a smooth finish on the inside like the throttle bodies tend to be ? I wonder if more power could be squeezed out this way.

Here's a dyno test of a polished upper intake:

another mod i like for around the same money your about too spend is a tuner. you can pick up just as much or more with the tuner. and it is also handy when you want too change gear ratios. or turn the traction control off for good.

Agreed. Both mods work well, and they can be additive also as your budget allows.

One thing we're working on too is porting out a stock plenum and TB, but we need someone in the Detroit area to dyno test it for us. I want to see how that compares to the aftermarket units.

plen..tb

dark knight...what i meant was gears are a bit to expensive for me right now..install ...and to tell the truth im happy right now with the way the car drives. for some reason i feel like a gear change would open up a can of worms with potential problems.
and thanks for the info guys...if thats all im gonna get out of a tb and plen maybe ill wait..even though i dont want to mess with exhaust i would consider a catted h-pipe. pulleys? tune? hmmmm i just dont know.
if i get a handheld tuner and change back to stock tune if i need to go to ford can they tell ive done something? i know they can with a chip swap.
