This is a picture of a brand new, never run Walbro fuel pump that had been sitting in the hanger in my gas tank for approximately 2 weeks. The pump before this was a cheapo 255 lph unit sourced from Ebay. It failed during my commute home. I was changing the pump and had to quit, leaving the pump partially installed, with the gas tank out of the stang. What is your guess as to this crazy accumulation of granular goopy sludge?

Was the fuel pump sock still intact when you took the pump out? I see the ring that holds the sock on, so that's why I asked. It may have sucked the sock up into it and made the pump malfunction. All this is a complete guess, though.

The sock was intact, and squishy and slimy as hell. I grabbed a finger full and pulled it close to my tongue before conceding that it would probably taste like $hit either way. I haven't pulled apart the old pump to see what's inside. Either way, that was my only guess too. Go go gadget locking gas cap.
