Flasher Unit - This is probably I really dumb question, but I can't figure it out!

Hey Everyone,

So when I bought my mustang, the turn signal didn't work. I'm assumed it was because it didn't have the flasher unit - see link below.

I went out and bought one and I assumed it went in the top right corner of the fuse panel like in the empty space in the picture in the link below, but I can't get it to fit in there. Is it suppose to fit into where the red and white wires go into, or is it suppose to fit into the two slots down and to the left? Or did I simply not buy the correct part? Or does it go somewhere else.

Actually the turn signal flasher is located underneath the dash. It's not on the fuse panel. At least it is on my '87.

Hmm kinda odd. A quick google images shows that it might actually go there. Buts its under my dash as well on my 89'

Ok I'll try looking in those places...do your flasher units looks like the item in the first link?

Also, any ideas what goes in the fuse panel?

I've found mine in several different spots. My first 87 it was attached to the steering column under the dash, my second 87 it was on the back side of the fuse box and my 90 was behind the glove box. They all looked like the image in the first link.

The Emergency Flasher goes in the Fuse Panel, my Stock Turn Signal Flasher was Blue in color.

In my 1979, it was behind the glove box, I think, In my 1991, it's behind the stereo. Yes, I think it is blue, but the one you show is a standard, universal, fits almost everything for a lot of years, flasher. it should work when you find it. How are the fuses and bulbs? A bad bulb can cause no blinking in some cars.

To find it, did you turn on your blinkers and listen for the sound of it not working?
Actually, when you find a blinker unit, turn on your hazzards to make sure the one you replace is not clicking.

i just changed that out on my 89 because the blinkers stopped working! It was the best 3 bucks I have ever spent at O'reilys and my was located behind the fuse panel! Took the cover off and felt around the back of the fuse panel until I found it!

My flasher went out shortly after getting my '91. Like shakerhood said, the one on the fuse panel is the emergency flasher, my turn signal flasher was mounted on the dash support metal in between the center console and the glove box. The original was blue in mine, but I just put in a generic one from the autoparts store and works fine. Just look up from the floorbord on the passenger side and you should be able to find it.

my turn signal flasher on my 88 was under the steering column. the hazards are behind the fusebox
