I was shocked to see this when we pulled the 40 series DF's off the Stang this week.

Check out the inside

is it common for dronemasters to rot out like this? I was really disappointed when I saw them, not that it mattered since I was taking them off. They've been on the car since March of 2001. When we fired up the car with the mufflers off, all kinds of crap came out of the flow tubes.

Anyways, I have magnapacks on now and they rock

My flowmasters eventually rusted out as well. I switched to magnaflow after that.

My flows eventually rusted through the casing and I could insert my hand from the top of the muffler. The car was loud

My Flowmasters were on my car for 6 years and 80k miles before they rusted completely through. I had a quarter sized hole in the rear of both mufflers and the insides looked exactly like the pics above.

Now I have Magnaflows.

This will happen to any system over time. That said the factor system is stainless steel for a reason, it take much longer for this to happen. Borla has a Million Mile warranty on their stainless steel exhaust system. My neighbor has magnapacks on the LT-1 in his ex-police car, they sounds good.

Aren't they aluminized? So I thought that was more prone to rusting then say stainless steel.

They are aluminized steel, water will sit in them from the exhaust, there is no drain.

What did you expect? Over time any non stainless muffler will rust.

Well Kraw.....you know what to do now right? Put them in the local bargain hunter and sell them off as a set of "strait thru" mufflers. Some kid with a Honda will buy them.

I've had my flows on for almost 2 years and they seem to be holding up pretty good, but I doubt they'll last the life of the car. Been thinking about SLP's or Magnapacks for a while, but I'd rather put the money elsewhere.

Do other kits clear the axle better than the flowmaster kit? I love the sound, but the fitment SUCKS!

I wish my diff. cover was shining like that even though the huge tank/tank cover wouldn't allow for it to be seen anyways

I wonder if that is what has happened to my flowmasters! The passenger's side muffler sounds like its got something rattling around in it at higher rpm's and its reeeaaallllyyy loud. They've been on the car since '02. Dang

probably so. These made a lot of rattling noise too, but it was because one of the welds was broekn
