Flowmaster? NEWBIE

I have just bought my first mustang. 2004 GT. I was calling about putting flowmasters on my stang. I first called a local performance shop and they quoted me $350.00 for a complete 40 series Cat back system without a install. I then called a local muffler shop about a custom built system with the same flowmasters and the price was $200.00 and then called another local shop and they priced at $150.00 with just removing my stock mufflers and putting the 40 series flowmasters in. What is the best for me to do and Why??? AND if flowmaster is not what is recommended then what is best.. Thanks for input

don't replace you stainless exhaust with alumized first off. no sensce downgrading in material.

if you do mufflers find a place cheaper than $150 just to do the mufflers if you go that route. that is going to put the cost way up there. and make sure you get the new stainless flows if you do.

The place doing you custom exhaust will most likely not be mandrel bent and that $200 can not include the mufflers so total cost will be up over $300 I am sure. If it does include them worry because they are probably going to do a crappy job.

I did the catback and got $90 out of my stock exhaust on ebay. It is a cheap way to do duals on a v6 and it is stainless so it is worth something. so if on a budget buy the magnaflow stainless catback and sell yours. have about $300-$350 invested into a full stainless mandrel bent exhaust.

as far as catback right now I say magnaflow or borla stinger. better quality and power than flowmaster. If you are a die hard flow guy I say buy the stainless muffler have the welded in at a shop that will not rape you. anything over $100 seems high for this job IMO

Great response. I just had this done with the Stainless Delta 40's a couple of weeks ago. ~150.00 for the mufflers, ~75.00 for the install (at Meineke of all places). They did an awesome job, even let me watch and inspect before the car came down off the lift. They sound good, not as much drone in the 1800-2100 RPM as the regular 40 series and overal not as loud. Overall I'm pretty happy. When I start to bolt in power-adders (after warranty expires), I'll replace the entire exhause from the headers back.

I bought my flowmaster cat-back for 300 and had it installed for like 60 bucks at a muffler shop. I would suggest Magnaflows though. I will be switching to them next spring. The only reason I went with the flows is because it was a quick, cheap, and easy fix for my stock exhaust, which was pretty much gone.

I had Meineke install my catback as well...they did a great job and had me out the door for $65 and a 1/2 hour.

The $200.00 includes flowmasters, piping, and labor. The $150.00 just includes the flowmasters and labor. $200.00 are Mandrel bent (at least that is what I was told)

It's up to you, but I wouldn't replace the stock pipes just to install mufflers. If you want the 2.5" pipe from the cat back, get a pre-made kit that has stainless pipes and mufflers.

I had 40 flows welded in, and although it sounded great, the flow isn't that impressive. Plus, over time the weld may leak. Magnaflow is priced very well, the Borla's sound great but is expensive, Bassani (my choice) sounds good but is costly as well. If you just care about the sound, then get the flows welded in. Performance, and a quality set up for furthur modifications, then go with those choices. Oh, and don't pay for someone to install a catback. Just do it yourself, its just a bolt on job. Have a buddy help you though b/c it is not a 1 man job unless you've got a lift or pit.

I have Flow 40's welded in and have had them on for about 2 years now with no problems and still sound great.
