I hav a 2.3L and Im switching to a 2.3L Turbo soon... I put dual exhaust on by myself and it doesn't sound any better, you can hear the engine over the car, and I hate the bumblebee sound of a 4 banger thats 20 years oldcrapola . So does anyone have ANY tips on what muffler I could attach to make it sound anything like a 5.0L (deeper and not fart can/bumble bee)?

Thanks....vids and pic coming soon, then you can give real opinions!

Flowmaster or Dynomax? Id say neither... definately not the flowmaster if you are going to do a turbo swap. Its best to get a straight through muffler such as a Magnaflow, with the turbo swap, a three inch exhaust with a straight through muffler will help the turbo spool faster and make more power

I would also have to say go with something straight through, even though I didn't. I went with Flowmasters hoping for the deep "V8 sound"
I have Magnapacks on my V8 and they sound great although I have not heard them on a four banger yet. I have heard the Dynamax Ultra flows and they sound good. If I were to change I think that would be what I went with.
Here are some sound clips of mine with Flowmasters in case that helps you make your decision....

You wont get a v8 sounding engine out of the inline 4 cyl. It just doesn't happen. That's what makes the 5.0 so unique.

On the other hand going with a turbo setup, you can get a unique spool/exhaust sound out of the 2.3. Enough to make people wonder what you have under the hood.

I built a 1.6 miata turbo car that ran 13's in stock trim. That car was a blast to drive. It had an external wastegate, and when that gate opened up and released exhaust to atmosphere...whew what a sound. I even beatup on a few v8's.

I got dynomax ultra-flow 3" pipe to 2.5 out rear. I like the sound but not a v-8 sound. On 89 Mustang turbo my 2 cents worth

20 years old? The design is more like 35 years old.

You're not really going to get a nice sound out of ANY Ford 2.3. Even Joe Morgan's 7.__ second Focus with the same SOHC head architecture sounds like......a 2.3.

The best thing you can do for the exhaust note is to get rid of the crackly high tones and keep as much of the low as possible. My SVO has a Dynomax oval muffler of some kind and it's not loud, it doesn't sound like a V8,
but it doesn't have that "buzz" either. Since you're going to use a turbo engine, and probably only want to buy exhaust once, go with 3" and a namebrand straight-through muffler. You may even opt for a smaller race muffler to go in front of the big one to act as a resonator.

If you're looking for something a little different in a muffler, consider a MAC FlowPath. They have a very high flow, no packing, and reduce noise by the "Helmholz" method. Should go good with a turbo.

Granted I haven't heard one on a 2.3, but I have one on a Bronco and it sounds very unique; with a low pitched burble at idle, deep accelleration tone, and a quiet cruise.....
