Flowmaster or SLP?

im torn between the Flowmaster 40s and the SLP Loudmouth.....just axel back.....i used to have the 40s on my v6.....which one sounds better on the v8? Plus i know the SLP is way cheaper.....Thanks!

I hear flows on S197's are pretty much hit or miss at least for the V8 crowd. Either you really love the sound or you don't. Many also complain about how their setups sound once you upgrade your midpipe. On the other hand I haven't really heard anything about SLP products other then the few who have them seem to like them a lot.

I have the SLP axle back. I was hoping there would be very minimal drone and thank God there is none. This is the reason why I avoided Flowmasters. I here at 2200 rpm Flows can be annoying. The SLP tips look awesome and I get compliments on the sound. Still have stock headers and mid pipe. I will post up pics later.

Chambered mufflers are famous for low vehicle vibrating sounds (under load) and for our cars its right around 2200. If you drive on the highway at this constant rpm and you want to put a bullet in your head after 15 minutes then you just found out what drone is. I ditched my Flowmaster 2 chamber muffs on my 94 GT years ago because they drove me insane.

I vote for the SLP loudmouth axle back. I just put mine on my car 06 gt last thursday and ive been finding excuses to go driving just to hear them. They sound amazing. No drone, they are just what I was looking for. If you want an idea on what they will sound like, just pop your mufflers off and take a quick drive. The will sound pretty much like that.

Do they pop or crackle when you let off the gas? Ive heard that the stangs with no mufflers will, but I didnt know if the loud mouths did. Also, whered ya get em at?

i think the best looking and one of the best sounding is the pypes stainlees steel axleback..and for only 300 bucks its hard to beat in my mind

FRPP Stingers, you can get em for like $430(i think)from pmp. I absolutely love mine and no drone at all even with longtubes and no cats.

the loudmouths are really the same exact thing as running no mufflers, they're pipes with tips on em, lol

Which is what I built myself for 115$. They do drone though, but I can live with it since it's a lower freq and decibal drone...

I would go SLP. I really haven't liked Flowmaster since the debut of the 4.6L. To me it just never sounded the same as it did on the 5.0's. I look at it this way though. It is not what we like but what you think sounds good. Most all of us hate the drone but sometimes that is the price you pay to get the sound you want. Just my 2 cents.

They will do this a little when it is cold and you go from high RPM to idle. With that said, I love my SLP and everyone that hears the car loves them too. I have the stock mid pipe and cats. There is one bad thing about the SLP for me, now that I have the supercharger, the car is almost 94 dB at WOT. This is only bad because my local track has a 90dB max level after 10pm. So, no racing after 10pm at the track for me.

They pop a little when cold or free revved. But once warmed up its sweet music to my ears I got mine from AmericanMuscle, very good experience, fast shipping, loved it.

Hmm, i may unbolt my stock mufflers and if i like the sound I will probaly get me a set of slp. My local muffler shop recommends the magnaflow mufflers and tips. But they are 340 installed, so I am keeping my options open for now. I know for sure tho I do not want flowmasters.

Must be the supercharger because my SLP mostly stock is in no way pumping out 94db with the stock mid pipe and cats.

I had the SLPs on before the supercharger without any dB issues at the track. After the supercharger, it is louder than N/A. The 94dB reading came directly from track officials

yeah every supercharged car I've heard is louder than an N/A car, my buddy has a procharged Dodge truck(the things sick)and I cant ride in it at WOT, it seriously hurts my ears.

I took my mufflers off at the shop today and drove it home. Honestly, and this is just my opinion, but it sounds like an old farm truck now haha. Altho, when taking off full throttle from a stop it does sound pretty cool. But at idle and regular town driving it sounds kinda bad. Down shifting is hilarious tho. You get some really wierd looks from people when they see what the sound is coming from

You might like the SLP power flows. Thats what I have and they have a nice aggressive sound but not like open pipes no drone either.
