Flowmaster system, which H-pipe to go with it?

Hey, Im not very happy with my flowmaster american thunder (2 chamber) cat back system. I loved how easy it was to install and stuff. I have owned a full flowmaster 3" set up on my iroc and loved it. But on my mustang the sound def doesnt do it for me (probably cause the stock h-pipe has 4 cats). The only time I really hear anything is at about 2 grand. I owne a 94 Gt 5.0 5speed and was wondering what kind of offroad H pipe I should buy. I am looking for something fairly cheap and if anyone has a good used one for sale they wanna sell let me know. Passing emissions and safety isnt a problem for me I have poeple who can get me stickers when I need one. Thanks Alot, Mike

yea the off road pipe will wake up your car a little too, you will feel the difference, i know i did after taking off 4 cats, and also your car will be alot louder and sound alot nicer

man, listen for 100 bucks....you wont go back. I have the flowmaster system,a nd recently had to put my stock cats back on for inspection...and damn damn i miss that nasty rip of my h-pipe. get it you will love it. careful though in the city, you will set off car alarms lol

I was talking last night with my buddy and we were talking about cutting the h pipe right before the back cats (just so we know everything it out and nothing gets stuck) and smash the screens out to hollow them out. Then weld it back up. This way with the front cats my stock engine will have the back pressure it needs but also have alot more flow now only having 1 real cat on each side. This way I dont have to call up my buddies everytime I need a sticker. What you guys think of that idea? I dont want anything wicked loud.

That would be really rigged and not worth the time. Just get an o/r and swap pipes when you need to.

When do they check you for emissions? I've never had any of my cars checked. I just bought my first mustang and really don't want to deal with that. If I get the BBK H-pipe to go with my Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust then I suppose I will have to get new headers correct? I am currently running stock ones. If I need new ones how much would they cost and what ones do I need? I'm getting a BBK H-pipe. Also, are new headers hard to install or will most muffle shops do it while you're getting the exhaust installed. Also, do you really need new oxygen sensors with the new flowmasters and H-pipes or are the stock ones okay?

Well, here in MA you have emissions every other year and without cats it wont pass. Aso you have to pass safety every year wich also includes that you have cats on you car. So no matter what you have to switch over the pipe.

I dont see how if I cut right before the cat and hollow out the rear two and weld it back up that would be considered rigged (if marked correctly and welded back straight, not a problem). It would work perfectly. I wouldnt have to change pipes every year, I'll get better flow, better sound, still pass emissions and safety, not have to call up my buddies to get me a sticker, make life simple.

i heard from people that have hollowed out their cats that it sounded like crap :notnice:, what i would do is take just the heat shields off and weld them onto the O/R h-pipe so it *looks* like you still have your cats :nice:

1. No you don't need new headers they will bolt on to stock ones.
2. If you want new headers bbk = lenght headers will run you $228 or so.
3. headers can be a big pain to install my buddy who works at ford had to jack the motor up to install them. A muffler shop can install them but if they have to jack the motor up $$$.
4. As far as o2 sensors go if there not broke don't fix them.
Good luck :D

If you have the H-pipe out, headers can be real easy to install, just pull them up from underneath the car.

"just pull them up from undeneath the car."

"just pull" = towards you (under car)
"up from underneath the car" = uhh :bang:

Nah just playing dood. :p

Anyways I say forget the h pipe and go for the x pipe. :D

I liked the way my MAC Prochamber sounded with my Flowmasters, mean aggressive rumble. When I added a set of headers the first time I was in the car I had to shout for the passenger to hear me. Everytime I would come up on someone they would either look in the mirror ro see what was coming or just move out the lane. Last year I changed to a MAC catback it doesn't sound as mean and anyone that knows my car has noticed it's quieter. If only Flowmaster had come out with the new super 40 muffler last year.

why would you cut pipes? get a metal rod, jam it in there and slam the hell out of the cats, my friend did it to his H-pipe, you know when its out because it comes out like powder once u smash the hell out of it,and if there is any left you will hear it rattle when you shake it and then beat it some more until its small enough to come out. its easy to do. and i would just hollow out all 4 if you were gonna do it, your engine doesnt need backpressure from the cats. but i would still just buy an Off road pipe if i were you because when you hollow out cats its like adding 4 little mufflers and it makes your car sounds different than with a real off road pipe.
