:D I have an 04 GT that is pretty much stock other than a cat back system, i have the flowmaster 40 series with 2.25" all the way to the 2.5" tips. When i installed the system i was expecting a lot louder exhaust note. I'll admit it does sound better and a little louder than a stock system but over all am pretty dissapointed in how quiet it seems to be. I was wondering what else you guys would recommend doing to the rest of the exhaust system to get that extra noise level that im looking for. I was cheaking out the manifolds the other day and they look pretty small so im guessing headers will be in my future :nice:... Im pretty open to any ideas such as a new intake, some headers, x pipe whatever you guys feel would give me the loudest and best sounding exhaust tone i can get with bolt ons. Thanks :D

If you're looking for LOUD (and don't have emissions in your state or can get around them), then go with an off road mid pipe. H pipes and prochambers sound the best with flowmasters although ive seen some people on stangnet say a "True" X sounds good too. With the 4.6L, shorty headers are worthless comparing gains to price and install. Long tube headers with a matching mid pipe would give u alot of power. If you can't get around emissions, then get a catted mid pipe or dump your exhaust after the mufflers.

cats=less noise haha, ill go with the offroad ones. As far as installing them how many hours am i looking at? I did the flows in about 2hours. Fitting them perfectly for welding is what consumed most of my time when installing them. The other day when i was under the car and it doesnt look like it will be that much trouble, I think ill order some tonight. Any thing i should be aware of when installing them?

i cant believe im beating streetstang03 to this but, i have the mustangtuning o/r x-pipe with the original flowmaster 40s and it sounds badass. its so loud it sets off car alarms. contrary to popular belief, chambered mufflers can sound nice with an x if coupled with a true x like the upr, dr.gas, mustangtuning, etc. but in any event, if you want more sound like the above posters said, go with an aftermarket mid. regardless if its an h or an x preferably go with an off-road pipe.

*waits for streetstang to chime in* :D

2 cats and 2 resonators in the stock midpipe. you can strait pipe the thing with the stock midpipe and it is not going to be that loud.

ditch the midpipe and you will be all smiles. I was the same way when I put my borla catback on. It had a nicer tone but I was very dissapointe with the volume. put my VRS x-pipe on and had an ear to ear grin.

As fro midepipe run the dr. gas x-pipe. everbody say's it sounds sick with flows. It will give you better power than an h-pipe as well.

I got a Mac Pro Chamber and its bad ass...I would go in that direction if your gonna stick to flows. You wont be disappointed. Loud as hell and that old school muscle car sound not NASCAR. I had a Bassani off road X with some flows and it sounded like ****. Good luck man and let us know and hear it when you decide.

Those prices are way high. I got my Mac Hpipe for 130 shipped from www.brenspeed.com and www.gtrhipo.com had them for 120 but shipping was alot being from CA. I sanded and painted mine with hi-temp paint from pep boys. You'll need MIL eliminators or a chip to turn off CEL if u didn't know.

As for installing it yourself, it will probably be a pain. I had a shop put mine on and they said one of my pass. side header bolts rotted and they had to torch it off. Just search in tech for install.

Spreadman has some sound clips of flowmasters with a prochamber and an h pipe. You'll find those in sticky: 4.6 tech important threads near the bottom of his thread.
