flowtech headers arrived...stupid finals

My flowtech longtube headers arrived safe and sound today. I'm going to TRY and take some times tonight to install them but it is finals week and that is holding me down.

Yeah, I'm really excited about them!

I just took my History of Britain since 1914 final and I made it my b----! So I should have plenty of time (after the engine cools off to install them.

nice, i got those same headers too for my 67/289... cept their not installed due to the car pulled a part.. keep me posted on how they feel!

I don't know about power steering though as I have manual steering (I'm not a big fan of power steering anyhow.)

They were $90 there abouts from summit.

On a side note, the UPS guy has thus gotten used to delivering car parts (transmission...cam...headers...rear disc brakes...) so today he says Okay man, the daddy in me is gonna have to come out: I know this is gonna be a powerful car and I'm all about that for you cause I was your age once too, but just PROMISE me you wont be racing in the streets.

CAn I ask a favor guys, could one of y'all with those headers measure the length... like from top of flange to the bottom. I'm trying to find a set that doesn't drop as low as the ones I have now (currently about 3.5" ground clearance).

I dont have any pics but I can get some in a couple days. They work with power steering but you have to get the bracket that drops the ps cylinder. Easy fix. I bought the headers from www.summitracing.com but dont remember the price. I have the reciept at home. 250$ range id guess. The only complaint I have is they are close to the starter. I put some heat wrap on the starter and it seems to be ok.

As far as measuring clearance, the cars on jackstands for brake work I need to finish. If no one helps out Ill get back to you after the weekend.

akd67: I paid $90 for mine which I thought was a steal.

I've got them installed, I just have to weld on the reducers and bolt the headers to the reducers.

Their engineers did something that others have done that annoys the piss out of me: oblonged half of the bolt holes. Out of the 8 bolt holes on each header 4 were oblonged. You oblong bolts holes for alignment, but it is pretty much worthless to do so if you only do half of them. It was a PITA to get the holes all lined up because of it.

I cranked it up without the exhaust hooked up...beautiful, wish I didn't have to run a muffler.

swede: My car isn't lowered (yet) but I have alot more than 3.5 inches clearance. I'd say foot or more.

I just cranked them up for the first time...scare dthe PISS out of me as they started smoking...I sniffed the smoke and go...i don't recognize that smell...then I noticed the boiling paint.

I've still got one more thing to do before the car is driveable again but I have to let the car cool down a bit first.

I'll measure the length tonight at home but as previously said i have lot's O clearance but my car is stock in the front ......for now! I used to have old hookers........headers and they were very tight around the starter and hung way lower but these give me alot more room all around and I havent had any problems with the sarter getting hot

Unfortnetly I didnt get the coated ones either but I would highly reccomend springing for them or having them coated later (which is what I'm looking at doing)

Alrighty! They are in! Definitely a PITA on the driver's side due to the clutch cable. I'm praying to God that said cable doesn't melt either. To protect it, I wrapped it up in some heat tape and put a heat wrap around it. It's between 2 pipes but not smooshed against either one.

I had to take the cable off the fork to get the header in. Welded reducers on to the old pipe (which will get changed in a few weeks too but that's another story.) Bolted up. Paint melted off really quicked revealing brown piping beneath (no worries, not to worried about looks <u>right now</u>.

The car sounds better, a little more of a rumble and growl to it. Also the gains were not <u>huge</u> obviously and I of course do not have a dyno but I could definitely feel it in my ass. The exhaust is definitely flowing better. But of course...I took off stock manifolds so a big difference was to be expected.

hmm... so all in all are they worth it? i hear they are suppose to be fairly good, and you can't beat the price. i went for the black ones too, might get them chromed some wheres down the road though.

does anyone know if the clutch linkage will be a problem for a 4spd (Toploader)? get some pics!!

thats kinda surprising that your old hookers were so tight....

All in all, yes well worth it, especially at the price!

I've got some pics of the headers (passenger side one installed and driver's side one on the floor) I'm hesitant to show pics of the flanges as it will show off my HORRIBLE welding skills

*edit* Oh and your clutch linkage shouldn't be an issue. My clutch cable was fun to rig up though...
