Now I'm completely new to the concept of flywheel upgrading, and not really sure where to start, so I figured come to the experts.

I plan on getting a centerforce dual friction (CTF-DF161057) for my '89 302, with a tremec TKO-600 tranny. What flywheel would match this? Does it matter? I know theres 157 and 164 tooth flywheels, and 50oz. and 28oz. imbalances. Does it matter which combination I get? Is one better than the other, or do I need a certain one for my application?

Thanks. Help is much appreciated.

I don't believe that particular clutch assembly will fit your application. The disk associated with that part number is for a T-5 and does not have the proper number of splines for the TKO. As for the flywheel, unless your engine is internally balanced for 28 oz. (meaning aftermarket engine assy,) then you will need a 50 oz. imbalanced flywheel. If your car is a daily driver, then I'd suggest you stick with steel and not aluminum. Centerforce recommends against aluminum for their DF anyhow.

Well, centerforce says that 183-DF161057 has a disc and pressure plate that are for an aftermarket 26-spline transmission, such as the TKO. You say that a 28oz. would be for an aftermarket engine assembly. Would this include Ford's GT-40 crate engine which I plan on getting (M-6007-XE3)?

According to Ford Racing Parts, that motor is balanced for 50 oz. Checkout: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=7368

As far as your part number goes... Summit racing part number CTF-DF1611057 is for a stock 86 to 95 application (meaning the T-5). If you're ordering directly from Centerforce then go with what they tell you to go with so long as they understand that you have a TKO. If you order from somewhere else... make sure they also understand that you're installing with a TKO. The only difference in the clutch kit for your application is the number of splines on the clutch disk. Everything else should be identical.

I'm assuming that this TKO is already in your car? If so, great... should be a straight forward install. If it's something you're planning to install along withthe new clutch; do you already have the new slip yoke for the drive shaft? The output splines for that tranny differ from the T-5 as well.

EDIT:!!!!! My mistake... I read the application guide wrong. The part number I listed at the top has a little note down at the bottom that says:
Application Notes Fits Tremec/TKO transmissions only.
It struck me odd that part number you had was identical except for their proprietary prefix. So... the DF161057 "IS" the TKO version. My bad... The DF021048 is for the T-5.

Yes Im sorry that is my fault. For some reason I listed the Summit part number in my original post, and the Jegs part number in my second. :damnit:

Ok. So what Im looking for is a 157 tooth 50 oz. imbalanced flywheel (CTF-700320).

No where else can I ask any question related to my vehicle and get a complete answer in less than an hour, let alone find one.

Thanks! :D

Cool... glad it's sorted. It sucks when you get everything ordered and it's the wrong thing. I'm reasonably sure that all the FMS crate engines use the 50 oz. imbalance with the exception of their 347. It looks as if the part you listed for the motor you plan to obtain is being replaced by M-6007-XB3. Eitther way... they're all listing 50 oz. dampers and flywheels. Good luck with your project! :)
