Just wondering what is the thread on late model flywheels (like 87 gt) for pressure plate bolts. is it standard 5/16 or metric 8mm? Are these bolts hardened (SAE grade 8 or metric 10.9)?
Depends who you ask. Some manufacturers say that if you don't have those pins in your clutch WILL chatter. I don't have any personal experience without the pins but then, they are like 10 bucks for the package, cheap insurance.
It was the Centerforce dual friction set I'm still running in my 89 Ranger. 5+years now on this set. Looking like it's going to last another 5 . The lLong style pressure plates don't fit the bolt pattern on the flywheel (Ford iron 157 tooth)
Do you know what is Ford specification on these bolts' torque? Is regular 20-25 lbs ok?
About the dowel pins I would definitely use them (they come with the flywheel anyway) clutch + trans work is no fun when no car lift is available (my case)
