FMS Clutch Cable frayed what to do?

Get a new cable. Who knows when or where its gonna snap. If you ask for new cable they're gonna laugh...I think. If you already have the quadrant a new cable will be pretty cheap.

I've used a few different quadrants, this being one of them. Personally I've never had any problems with that quadrant, and like it a lot. however, to be fair, mine is over 5 years old, and who knows if the manufactoring is different now.

Also, welcome to the world of adjustable cables. Many, many people have problems with these. they are just not built with oem quality, all of them. Don't even waste your time with another cable. If they'll take it back, exchange the quadrant and cable and get your money back, then get the maximum motorsports single hook quadrant AND firewall adjuster, or the upr triple hook quadrant/firewall adjuster OR the steeda quadrant/firewall adjuster. those seem to be the three most popular setups, and you can't go wrong with any of them. HOWEVER, if they wont' return the quadrant, don't stress it, as I've mentioned, I've had great luck with that quadrant, but I did snap three of those damn fms cables before I put the oem one back on. If you keep the quadrant, put your oem non adjustable cable back on. If you threw it away, then buy an oem replacement, but not from ford, too expensive. Get it cheaper from buyfordmotorsports.com (diversified) or maximum motorsports. Use that in conjuction with your existing quadrant and a firewall adjuster of your choice. Adjustment will now be at the firewall, not underneith, so no crawling under the car any more, and the cable will be ten times stronger. replacing with another adjustable cable may result in the same problem.

To be fair, many use this adj cable with no issues. there is a good chance that you've misrouted your cable. check to be sure it goes straight out, past the shock tower, then down right near the steering rack, and under the car where the oil filter/steering rack is, then follows the undercarriage along to the clutch fork. If it's routed any other way, then this could very well be the source of your problem.

with an aftermarket 1 piece quadrant you will need either an adjustable cable or a firewall adjuster or you plan to use an oem cable. im a huge fan of the non adjustable cable with the firewall adjuster if for no other reason that its a lot easier to adjust

exactly, so to use that cable, just order a $40 firewall adjuster and have it overnighted to your house, then you can use that oem cable. order them from any of the companies I already mentioned, unless you already have one in mind.

UPR sells their original firewall adjustor (been on my car for 3 years) for about $20. Their newer beefier version is about $30-40 I think. I think the original is more than adeqaute.

If you haven't found a good place to get a stock cable for cheap then goto Jegs and get the Ford Racing Clutch Linkage Upgrade Kit for $62.99. It comes with a new factory cable and a new clutch fork.
