Fog lights not working

I Just got a 95 GT to add to my collection and I can't get the fog lights to work.
The fuse is good bulbs are new. I wanted to check in with you to see if any one has had problems.

I use to could search past post but can't find where to do that. Thangs change when you don't keep up with sites.

They only work when the headlights are on.

Yes, I know that. I am getting the console light on the switch on but the fogs don't come on. could it be the switch or relay? Any one had this problem?

check all the wiring. i've seen some people try to patch into a constant power source to be able to switch them on without the headlights and mess it up.

As you noted, where I'd go next is the fog light relay (you checked the fog light fuse under the hood too?).

You can lightly pull up on the relay but leave it connected to the socket. Slide your meter leads in there and check the values.

I can do that but not sure what values I'm looking for. Also I noticed that there is another relay with the same part number two slots above the fog relay. Would it make since to swap them?

also check the condition of your light sockets. You may have had a wire break off and that would break the continuity.

Wow and here I thought something was wrong with my fog lights because they would only come on with the head light low beams on and only then not with parking lights or high beams. Thats good to know, I almost started ripping things apart to check wiring, lol.

The relays should be interchangable (I've swapped them around myself). If you remove the relay and set-up the fog lights so they should be on, you should see one constantly-hot-teriminal, one that's hot with the key (and fog light button) on, and one ground. If you plug the relay back in, you should see the last terminal show 12 volts. This is the output to the fog lights.

I'd see what you have and go from there.

it is sooooooo simple to make your fog ligths come on when ever you want without the head lights being on i found the write up online and did it ....it envolves taking the fog light switch out and if you dont have a vert you still have the hardwiring there for the convert top. all you do is replace a wire on the for switch with a wire from the vert top switch its the only wiring harness in your arm rest consoul its also nice because you cant accidently leave your fogs on cuz the top is key activated.... oviously of you got a vert you tap in not cut it completely... really nice to have ......if your happy witht he way it is already wired maybe check in there to see if someone else hacked it all up in there. i will try to find that site to get specific wires and everything.

Trav, if the fog light switch is lighting up (I think he said his is), the power to the switch is ok. Doing the rewrite/retrofit right now would just introduce more variables.

Once fixed, I do agree that the retrofit is a great idea.

oh... ok...umm dont know if it helps but in my 93 the wires to the fog lights them selves were pretty much shot you could bend the wire and they would come on and go out...your best bet is to start at the switch if you have power there trace it all the way out until you have no power process of elimination

Trav, I hear ya there mang.
The foxes sourced fog-light power from the headlights (as an add-on). There was no OEM relay which was a source of issue.

Now that was a situation where you could not rewire a relay into the fog light circuit fast enough.

problem fixed

I got the fog lights working. As I continued to figure out what I was going to do I had problems with the headlights going out on me while driving. Sometimes the dash lights, headlights and taillights would not all come on at the same time. As I looked in to this problem I found out that the headlight switch connector was melted. I talked with ford and they told me that was a common problem. I replaced the headlight switch connector that plugs into the headlight switch. Was not to hard to do. About 1 1/2 hours. Thought you would like to know. :SNSign:
