Follow Up: 50.00 ebay shifter. My review

As many know I started a thread about the shifter on ebay I found for 50.00 shipped.

It arrrived quickly from California to Indiana.

Here is my first impressions:

There are no instructions. (dont really need them)

The shifter came packaged nicely and visually I cannot find anything wrong.

The over all quality is very nice. I am impressed especially for the price.

Installation was simple and I had no issues in fitment the positive stops adjusted in nicely.....etc. Installation took me about 30 mins.

The shifter handle has 2 settings for height. Both of which is a little to tall for my taste, but it is shorter than stock. (I have had the same issues with other brand name shifters, I just like the handle as short as humanly possible. )

The test drive revealed no issues. Its a nice smooth tight shift, rather effortless really.

I have to give this shifter a thumbs up for daily driver ocassional track use.

American muscle sells the exact same shifter for 70.00.
They sell on ebay for 45-60.00 If you look through the auctions you will find some have free shipping and throw in a shifter boot also.(boot is useless in our cars)

Does it have adjustable side spring pre-load? Looks like a decent piece for the price.

Yes, it comes with an extra set of springs to adjust it. The ones installed were comfortable so I didnt swap them.

Hey, I bought that same shifter. After I installed it, it felt too far to the right, like I had to reach over pretty far to get it in 5th. So I took it apart and removed the "Z" shaped aluminum piece and fabricated a piece out of some steel I had that bent up/to the left/and up again. Drilled some holes and mounted it on the shifter. It was perfect... basically just drop my hand down and the shifter handle is right there. Now I don't have to lean out of my seat to reach 5th.

I will likely be fabricating a handle of some sort to shorten it.

Already did that, I also slotted some of the holes to change the angle of the handle.

man oh man, memories. i remember how quick it would rip through the gears. awesome deal for the price. only thing i would do is put a pistol grip. i loved it.

First I cut off the threaded shank and I cut the threads off a 12mm bolt and welded it in place of the shank.
Then I cut the aluminum z bar lowered it down and rewelded it. Ill post a picture in a minute.

Its hard to tell the difference in the side shots but if you look at the boot you can tell the diff.

Second gear sets short and close to me Its perfect for my reach. I dont have to lean up to hit any gear.
