For anyone tempted to run an open exhaust...here's your exhaust clip, plus lots more

I picked up some new mufflers for basically free so i'm doing a swap, and i figured since the question gets asked a lot about just running an open X or H and how it would sound, i figured i'd shoot a quick clip and let everyone hear. Of course, some are going to say this sounds badass and run out and rip their mufflers off their car....but let me warn you that the short little rev you hear is only to about 3k RPM....if you step into it, it's gonna be ridiculously loud and you're playing a numbers game on getting pulled over...

I had to make it real quick because it's Sunday and the neighbors are all out playing and i like to stay on good terms with them. Even though it's only about 13 seconds long, i still had one neighbor come out and tell me his dishes were jumping around in his cabinets....lol.

For anyone who's been to the track, this is nothing new. I just made it for those who are curious, and to tell those people to GET MUFFLERS. Even dumped 1 chambers or Race Bullets are MUCH quieter than this (and believe me even if you like it loud, that's a good thing).

The mufflers i'm putting on are a long shot...i don't know how they're going to sound but since they were free and it took me all of 2 minutes to take my other mufflers off, i'll give them a shot. They're Forza Flow 3''/3 chamber mufflers. I did some poking around and found that the guy who created them is the brother-in-law to the owner of Flowmaster, so i'm guessing they're very similar, as they also look a lot like Flows (although the welds on the Forza's are far superior to anything i've seen on Flows). Being 3'', it's gonna be funny to see what they sound like....but it's no big deal if they sound like crap, i'll just swap my others back on.

Speaking of the OTHERS....some of you might remember me talking about my "Brown County 1 chambers" which is an inside joke about cutting 2 chamber mufflers in half to make a ghetto 1 chamber....well i happen to love mine and i've been meaning to get some pics up, so i took pics while i have them off the car. They're a bit rough/ghetto looking but you get the idea. They sound pretty mean dumped and even nastier with tail pipes, i just need to get some 2 1/2 tail pipes to put with them before i run'em again.

Yeah, sounds like a tractor at idle (but that's a stock cam....with a good exhaust lope it would be different). The rev up is honestly about the same as Bullets were except much louder.

i had to use my car a couple of days with open exhaust and its hell...i've got b cam and ported e7 heads and the thing is just stupidly loud....but i liked the sound so what did I do? I have long tube headers with a bit of 2 1/2 tube and finish it of with chery bomb glasspack mufflers and dumps before the differential...more or less the same sound without calling the sound police

Oh man....put your flame suit on....it's gonna get nasty in here once THAT comment gets around :rlaugh:

It really is a "to each his own" sort of thing because personally i've never heard cherry bombs on anything that didn't sound like complete crap, but then i usually only see them on old run down trucks and ragged out GM's so who knows. I wouldn't mind hearing them with full length headers and an X pipe, but i'm betting they sound very similar to Dynomax Race Bullets and that sound just wasn't for me.

I had a set on my '73...they sounded alright when they were new (2" exhaust...no equalizer pipe) then the packing started to blow out and they sounded like butt. I like my Hooker LTs, 2.5" pipe, x-pipe, and Spintechs I have now :D

they sound nasty imo especially on z71's and when people "bust them" to make them louder

I actually dont think that they sound bad...hey but thats my taste...im not running either h or x pipe...i was thinking of the ac cobra exhaust setup when i did it

I actually like the sound of open headers but its too loud...this gives me that sound but at lower db hahaha

I got the impression of "farm tractor on steroids" when I cranked up my notch once with an O/R H-pipe on it and nothing behind it. GAWD. I couldn't even stand to try driving it around the block. It wasn't even fun, it was just :notnice:

The only real way to hear an exhaust is under a load. Mine sounds like a lot of other cars revving in the driveway, but get it out on the street and it is way different. Gets real high pitched and raspy through the midrange. To the point where it contends with some of the louder 4.6 cars for loudness and raspiness (if thats a word).

i think the same way of my car...kinda raspy like the modulars with an x pipe
