That’s not that long for a motor from a private individual, doing all the work himself. If you wanted a half ass piece you should have called coast high performance. Hell I have had motors that we are building for different people (granted they are race motors and are a little more involved) that we have had for almost 2 years now.
It seems reasonable to me, you have to remember 90% of the time stuff like this takes longer than planned. Still no excuse IF he has not stayed in contact about what is going on with the customers’ engine.

My recent engine ran 4 months over completion date...you wait for somethings, it's just the nature of that business.

I've already presented the facts. What is in question now seems to be my motivation for being concerned. Tunedin, I already PMd you with the reasons for my involvement, so I don't know why your still bustin my balls here? The reason I am interested in this isn't really anyones business and it has no bearing on the issue - but if Daggar says I have to post it to keep this thread alive, I will - otherwise I would just like to keep it to myself.

If in fact he quoted you 6-8 weeks and you are on week 8, but you did recieve notification from him I wouldn't worry so much. I admit the email sounded strange but if you've been in my shoes lately you'd know stranger things could happen.

I'd simply ask him for another quote and after that deadline comes and goes I'd say you'll have reason to worry.

As for anyone else's business with Rick? I don't know them. I don't know rick therefore I can't comment but I'm sure there must be some circumstance that hasn't been brought to light. If I were that worried I'd PM someone here close to Rick and see if they could find anything out for me. A simple thread stating "Anyone in the PA area please help!" or such and pm the responders

Have you ever taken your car to a shop? Have they ever told you it will be ready in 3 days and it ends up being 2 weeks? My dad used to be very much into rebuilding classic mustangs but he didnt know anything about them. So he had to take them to shops and rely on other people to do it for him. Its a known fact that shops take in more jobs then they can handle, and do tell the customers that itll be done before it really will be. Not saying Rick is like that, but 100% of the shops ive had expierence with are like that.

The FACT is that Rick is a very talented person, SEEMS like an AWESOME person, and is a VERY busy man. You order an engine from him you better pay up and stfu till its done, because when its done, itll be the most badass engine you could get. I dont see what your trying to get out of this thread, I wouldnt expect someone to build me something and it not take a long time.

Since no one has heard from Rick in a while, I hope he is still alright, and gets those engines out quick. Its not an easy job, and people like you make it harder.

Just to clarify - about 8 weeks ago he was still quoting 6-8 weeks - I only bring this up because other people have been waiting for over a year. IMO, it was suspect for him to still be telling people that timeframe and have such a backlog. I did not actually order a motor from him 8 weeks ago. I have personal opinions and vibes as to why he is quoting 6-8 weeks still, but that would start another poop-storm and I'm sticking to facts only.

I'm not going to insist that you post however.....

I question the wisdom of casting aspersions on the character of someone that is not here to answer those aspersions, while at the same time being asked to take what you say in blind faith.

What's it going to be? A fact thread or one of nothing more than innuendo?

Two reasonable but unconfirmed items have come so far:

Two individuals have waited 8 and 14 months for builds
Rick is hard to get hold of

I agree, with no other indicators, this could be the case. This is partially why I was curious to see how many people were waiting for engines.

People like me? Cmon man - I'm just trying to help.

My best advice would be to wait until he pops up sometime this week or next and then PM him with this thread.

In the mean time try to contact him by phone, mail, email. I agree with Daggar that if he's not here to defend himself it's worthless to form opinions.

If he were not a respected member of this site I'd say to hell with him... But he is a part of the site and not just some Joe off the street.

Ok - There are some other facts, but the way that people responded to my less damaging statements (the ones you pointed out above) - I'm afraid I would get lynched for posting these. Daggar, would you mind me PMing them to you and you can screen them for me? I only ask because I think if you say these are fair things to post, I will take less heat from the mob here

My final thought on this is:

I challenge ANYONE to find an individual who's ever had money or parts stolen by Rick. I'm pretty sure that how all this got started... Somone was worried about their investment. That's totally understandable.

Still... The challenge is there. Find someone who's lost money or items to Rick.

Being behind in work doesn't make somone a thief yet folks want to go down that road and fabricate circumstances and fact to fit their preconcieved conclusion.

I'll add to this post.

I was in the bandwagon of waiting on my motor a month after I was told it should be done. I than put the facts into perspective before bad mouthing him.

- I saved over $1,000 by going with Rick
- I got better parts and a better built engine than i would have locally
- He does this on the side. THIS IS NOT HIS JOB!!!! Except some delays regardless of what he says. If you want a motor done on time and want to bad mouth, do it to a business that does this as a living, not someone doing you a favor on the side since he's not making much money building these motors than he should be.
- I got my cam installed & degreed, bung welded in oil pan, timing chain installed and cover sealed all for basically nothing.

There is a reason why the people who have dealt with Rick before praise him in a sense because the kind of quality and service he gives is second to none.

Yes I did have to wait longer than expected. But it was WELL worth it by saving myself all the money that I would have spent on a lower quality motor. You can bet your a$$ that when I get enough money for a Dart block setup, Rick will be my first call (assuming he is still in the business)

When did you order it and when did you get it? Yes, you waited a month over - but how long would you wait with no word from Rick before you got upset? 6months? 14months?

Modular2v - nice name calling. I don't think there is any room left on the bandwagon for you, however. It is an informative online community and I was simply providing a few facts to inform people. I think maybe you guys should take your own advice and if you 1 - have nothing to do with this, stay out, or 2 - Don't have any facts to disprove what I know to be true, also - stay out. What are you really contributing to this, other than jumping on the bandwagon to improve your post count?
