ok i was expecting my car to not idle at all.....today i wrapped up my h/c/i
ported twisted wedge heads
edelbrock performer rpm
fti cam (rather large)
13* timing
75tb
30's and 80mm pro-m
fuel pressure is 42
every other bolt on there is

there is ZERO tuning done right now, but it idle and drives fine theres a couple little quirks that happen but nothing that affects drivability at all. im surprised but happy

it sounds absolutely NUTS by the way. all hail the lopy CAM

Just a FYI- my car idled great for about two weeks after adding the H/C, but as soon as I started tuning on it with adding timing and fuel the dreaded surge and die syndrom started. I hope you are lucky enough that it doesn't happen to you, but I figured I'd warn you. I've seen this happen to a few others as well.

if i understood you correctly, you only ran into issues once you started to tune it (with on e of the self tuners)?

the thing is i am incredibly broke right now and dont have the money to do any tuning to it so if for now it idles thats fine with me.

When I put that cam in my car it idled like crap. If you think that cam is big, you should see my new one

Good to hear its all done. I can't wait to see the results! I did about 300rwhp with that cam, unported TW heads and a tfs street heat manifold. You should eclipse that by a lot! It'll want a 6200-6300 ish shift, possibly higher. I shifted at 6000-6200 with that cam with less head and less manifold.

Bump that timing up to around 18*.

You need 4.10's for this combo. But you had told me you might be spraying so the 4.10's will put you out of your powerband on the spray. I say gear it right and stay n/a.

18* will be the ballpark area for best power. Fyi, I gained 1.5 mph at the track going from 14* to 18* on my old TFS 302 combo. Trust me, you've listened to me this far

No, I tuned it originally with the dizzy and an adjustable FPR and THAT is when my idle problems started. It was at that time that I had to buy the eec tuner to cure the idle. I wish you luck, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't start to act up on you. I don't know the specs but mine is on the small side as 302 cams go and I had issues.

i messed with a few things today...spent a few hours with the car trying to understand all the new parts. My fuel pressure was actually at 45, i guess i had it higher last year to compensate for my stock 19's. It is now down to 40. the lower fp made it run MUCH better.

I have an occasional idle issue....Starting the car when it is cold, yields the idle holdong at like 1500 then dropping down to 750 (normal like it should). BUT, after a hot start it will ocasionally surge, sometimes die. When driving the car, it has not died once when coming to a stop nor does it surge at all. It just happens sometimes after a hot start and takes a few revs to calm down.

also, it will not start unless i put my foot on the gas to open the tb a little. Why is that?

oh and the cam..... the .050" specs are .547/.536, 224/228 duration, 110lsa.

it may not be that big but its quite a step up from the stocker!

i did some beating on it today

changed my msd pill from 6k to 7k. I did a 1-2 shift a tick over 6k, i think the mph was around 50 at the top of first. 2-3 came in around 80.

all i can say is the car will not stop pulling from 3k to where i shifted the car, and that is with 2.73's.
