Wow 185...that's cookin.

I don't know if the average person....even the average car guy...realizes just how fast 185mph is. When you're going say, 110mph...every 10mph faster you go is like A LOT faster than you were going before...lol. When you get up to about 145, you're reeeally cooking...then when you get around 165 things get really hairy if you're not in a car that was seriously built for high speeds. Faster than that is almost tough to really comprehend because your mind eventually steps into what is typically referred to as "speed vision" (yeah that's where the channel got their name) which basically means that your eyes and your mind work together to filter only the most important incomming senses...for example you no longer pay attention to things like periferral vision or each and every little shrub that wizzes past you. The faster you go, the less detail your mind can actually comprehend as it's flooded past your eyes. Top Fuel/Funny Car and F1 are just a couple types of racing that experience this, but the average person will experience this at much lower speeds than the seasoned racecar driver will.

I myself have only ever driven a car up to 145 (heh, a Ford Probe of all things...it was damn fast for a bone stock 5sp Probe). I've rode along in a 9 second pass in a 711hp Nova, but that was somewhere around 130-140mph. I have a buddy who's a crotch rocket junky and we've had long talks about this...he's got a ton of video of him going 180+ on his stroked 929CBR...he said you get to a point where all you can think about is how fast you are going and he said you actually have to fight the urge to slow down because the fear will take hold of you no matter how confident you are. The part that really challenges this whole thing is just how long you stay at a given speed....say for example, a 200mph pass in a drag car isn't crap to a 200mph top speed run in a supercar (at least as far as dealing with the speed is).

And all that is without even mentioning those crazy ass salt flat top speed guys going 700+mph. That's beyond me.

The highest I've ever been is about 135 and that was in my DD, but I didn't have any speed vision on that occasion. I'd like to be somewhere where I could experience it safely at higher speed.

I got my ls1 camaro up to 168 and it honestly freaked me out. shooting down the strip it happens so fast your mind cant comprehend what is going on. when I bottomed my car out I was on a back road in the middle of nowhere. I consider myself lucky that I didnt kill myself or anyone else. not something I will do in a streetcar again.
