??? For those who have done custom engine bays!

I'm getting ready to drop a sweet engine (chrome covers, ect.) in my car that my buddy has and I won't get into details about it right now but while I'm waiting for some more parts I want to clean up the engine bay, majorly, but I'm on a major budget too! I've seen some bays on here that look sweet and I just wanted to get some tips from you guys on what I can do to make it look a lot better. I've even considered trying to do some fiberglassing like I've seen some of you guys do, but I'm a newbie to painting/bodywork crap!

the easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to hide the most obvious wires, maybe tape off the car, and paint the engine bay black with spray paint. At least that something i'd like to do, you CAN get into molding and smoothing, but it can get expensive and time consuming.

If you own a welder already it isn't that expensive, just time consuming. If you are going to fill the holes and groves etc, weld them up.

you should put a pic of what it looks likes now, so we can give yo specific directions. The coil bracket/ps bracket area is the first think I usually tell guys to work on...Costs NOTHING if you have the dremel and polishing stuff already....just some time. That area shines up nicely. WD 40 for the grease/dirt on wires. Get some pics up if you can.

Okay I'll get some pics shot of the engine that's going in and the empty engine bay after work today. The brackets and stuff on the engine are good, because it has all March polished braketry, and my MSD coil is currently mounted on the fender well... I also need to find a nice place to put the MSD 6AL, as before I had a custom bracket on the STB, but the new engine doesn't give me that clearence any more.

Get some purple stuff degreaser and wash the engine bay down good with some soap and water . Do it a couple times if need be b/c you'll see more stuff you missed previously. It will look nice b/c it's bright yellow. Take a look at Paul's (KILLERCANARY) motor bay and you'll see how nice it will look cleaned up. Put a couple coats of wax on it after its clean.
Hiding the wires will really clean it up from all the clutter but you already have a good amount gone with the AC and PS deleted. Look at my site in my sig and others like the ones who replied already. They have very impressive motors and engine bays that you can emulate or get a vision of what you want to do. I copied something from everyone on here or got help. I wanted my car to look like RC's b/c he is the "KING of BLING" on the 94/95 forums and no one can touch him. PM any of us for advice man and def hit up RC b/c he's "DA MAN".

Take all the wires out and spray the engine bay with degreaser and try to clean everything the best you can. If you do all the prep work, any body shop should be able to paint it for you for less than $200. Mine cost $100 for paint. Also clean up any faded/rusted parts and paint then whatever color you want. I used dupli-color Charcoal on most of mine.

If you have access to a welder you can fill in some holes, or cover them up with sheetmetal. This will require some bodywork skills, lots of time, and lots of patience, so don't start if you don't think you can finish it. Just filling in a couple holes shouldn't be that bad tho. Look up Masonozz(sp?) on here for tips on that.

Thanks for the advice guys! BTW, I'm not new to SN's, but thanks anyway! I don't have a welder but a friend of mine will be buying one soon, and he's got a lot of sheetmetal (he's a roofer) but neither of us have welded before! I dunno if I want to get into that yet, but it sure looks nice. I will be using my power steering, but no A/C.

I started painting my engine bay today with POR 15 clear rust preventative paint. I cleaned the bay up first the other day with simple green, a spounge and a bucket of water. Heres is a pic from todays work.

The second pic is before I cleaned it and starting painting.

you could paint your master cylinder and relocate you battery to your trunk. other than that just follow what all the bling kings told you to do.

Yeah, I definetly want to move the battery to the trunk. What's the best kit to get to do that and where should I get it? Also, where do you get that POR 15 paint? I'm thinking of just doing black underhood....or should I try and do yellow? I would think black is easier to keep clean!

just make sure when u do this stuff, you take your time. nothing like hurring and getting yourself into more trouble.

Since you never did any body work, i would stay away from molding and welding new sides in. it will take a lot longer than u think it will.
