I dunno if there's already a thread on this (didn't see one)....but can you believe the cuts going on at Ford.....1/3 the workforce!??! You think quality now is questionable....its only going to get worse. Anyone want to pitch in and buy Aston Martin?

I wouldn't worry about Ford quality. Ford already makes decent quality cars. The ford Mustang is one of the highest quality automobiles that is built today.
Ford is just trying to cut all the inefficiency that exists within the company. That's what happens when they aren't profitable. Layoffs and cutbacks.

American capitalism at it's finest... The guys at the top are still getting huge bonuses while another 10,000 people go to the unemployment line and wonder how they are going to feed their families. I'll bet if they quit giving those executives huge bonuses on top of their huge salaries they could have saved the same amount of money.

Its "quality" is job #1, not "quantity"

I think streethorse is right. $3 a gallon for gas doesn't help people save money for new vehicles.

the suv market is something ford relied on heavily and ignored the fact that there wasnt one family type car they made anybody REALLY wanted to drive until 06(fusion). they have definitely made a turn for the better in that respect and made some great cars come to market. ford will most likely bring to market an econobox, but they will make sure it is a desireable vehicle first. im excited about the turn around on the cars and car based vehicles that are coming to market.

we just had a pre production edge dropped off today and it is bad ass for that segment

trimming fat has to happen

While I agree that some make way too many bonuses, 25 people getting a 500K bonus is alot less $$ than 30,000 people making 40K a year. Ford needs to do what they need to do to keep going towards profitability which keeps the other 2/3 of their work force employed.

Besides its not like they are saying you employees are just done, they are getting descent buyouts and long tenure people are getting a pretty good benefit program.
