Ford dealer used graphite additive in oil change

I went to the Ford dealership (Haldeman Ford in Hamilton NJ) for an oil change. When I got my receipt, they put some "Kreg" Graphite super lubricant in my engine. I tried to get a refund so I could go to a different dealership and get that crap out (since I don't trust them anymore). They just blew me off.

Is graphite bad for the engine? How fast should I get it out?

In the 70s I used to run it in my racing engine.The stuff was great. It would coat the internals with a grey film that would lubricate even if you dumped the oil. I would not worry about it.

get that **** out of there. demand a refund. if they put it in and charged you for it without your authorisation that is illegal. there is no need for additives with newer oils.

just checked out my source for random oil knowledge, bitog, and there is no mention of it whatsoever. just a lot of talk about how graphite oil will screw up turbos.

I'm sure some idiot tach thought he was doing you a favor. It wont do any harm I'm sure. You could always burn it out with some SEAFOAM!

was this included in the oil change price?

if so the chances are it never made it into your motor anyways. It probally ended up in the trash

agreed with svttech, i know when i got a lot of additives, they just ended up in my box, then got emptied in the oil drain bin. as long as you use a API SJ or higher oil you dobnt need an additive, there are already enough additives in the oil itself.

I checked bobistheoilguy's website and it seems many dealers are using this additive. I got the spelling wrong, it's KREX http://www.krexinc.com/consumer/

I'm still going to get rid of this oil out of my mustang ASAP.

I already complained with the service manager about this. I'm out of luck because I signed the paperwork without reading it. What a waste of $37.39 for an oil change that I will have to re-do myself.

that sucks dude. i actually stopped taking my car to teh dealer because i found out who they for their oil from, and it wasnt ford. i just dont trust bulk oil in my car.

I had friend who did the circle track racing, and he swears by those graphite additive. I guess its like Slick50, except they really do work. So i was told.

I think MercedesBenz use something similer in their diesel cars my mechanic told me little while ago. And their Diesle run forever...


I myself will not put anything but Mobile 1 tho

I wouldn't trust that sh1t. Get it outta there ASAP.

I NEVER let anyone else change my oil anymore. Once I saw they put 8 quarts of oil into my car instead of 6

According to my research it is more common for graphite to be used in diesel engines.

Complain, then complain some more, then go to Fords website and complain about that dealer. When you get a survey in the mail, complain on that too. You may have signed papers but that just sounds shady. They are wrong and they know it.

I dont understand why warranty only should matter. I wouldnt let a dealership touch my car unless it was a warranty job. They get paid well for warranty work, so where is the problem?

the pay for warrenty work is substantially less than customer pay. sometimes half, sometimes less than that. if you just use the dealer for warrenty work, they dont help you out when you have a problem, because you are wasting their time.
