ford racing b-303 camshaft

i'm presently doing a head gasket replacement on my 5.0. while its apart, i'm looking to pick up some power where possible. its got a ford racing b-303 camshaft, stock pistons and valvetrain. the cam's got duration of 288/288 and lift of .480/.480

just a couple fo questions...

would it be worth it to advance/retard the cam timing by moving the camgear up or down 1/2/3 teeth? or is it best to get the kit?

are 1.7 rockers advisable? what kind of gains should be expected? any downside?

1.6 rockers although 1.7's work too, not as wel as the 1.6's do on that cam. If you have good airflow( heads, intake ) then yes it will help, sweet idle, sounds mean at idle, pretty good driveabilty, gets choppy under 1600 rpm, but pulls to redline.

putting it on by moving the teeth is TOO MUCH and will cause issues and wont run right

they make a timing set with multi keyways in the crank sprocket and you can advance or retard it to 2, 4, 6 and 8 degrees

and i run 1.7s with my b-cam and nothing is wrong, works fine. i have always used them with my cam. with 1.7s the lift on a b-cam goes to around .510-.512

You didn't answer anything, so what was the point of posting this nonsense?

Advance the cam by getting a timing chain set that has the extra marked key ways like foxfan mentioned. Advancing the cam wont get you any more power but it will bring your power band down to a more usable rpm range. 1.7 rockers will raise the lift to around .512, so if your heads can support it you should see a small gain there.

when adjusting the timing of the cam am i going to need a degree wheel? and would it make more sense to retard or advance the b-303 cam for street driving and the occasional trip to the track? also how many degrees would yeild a noticable difference? i'm only planning to take the timing cover off once, so i'm trying to think ahead as much as possible

Advance the cam by getting a timing chain set that has the extra marked key ways like foxfan mentioned. Advancing the cam wont get you any more power but it will bring your power band down to a more usable rpm range. 1.7 rockers will raise the lift to around .512, so if your heads can support it you should see a small gain there.

wtf? I was just telling the man about the cam, you did absolutely nothing helpful, foxfan already beat you to it, ive had a couple of these cams, you probably dont know jack **** about these, so just shut up, go play with your yourself.

He was just giving some insight on what the cam does. it wasnt the answer to his question but it was usefull information. wtf do you care??

I'm getting ready to use the B cam in my HCI upgrade. I was advised by a famous porter to advance the cam 4 degrees. You will need a degree wheel/kit to get it right.

lol, it still made me laugh

i have 1.7's. but i have a stock cam. i believe the formula to find out what 1.7's will do to your lift is take your current cam lift (using mine as an example so .444) divide by your current rocker arm ratio (stock 1.6) then multiply by new rocker ratio (now crane 1.7s) which changes my lift to .471. so for your b303 cam, .480/1.6(1.7) = a lift of .510. 1.72's give you .516 and 1.73's give you .519.

i also run the b cam my combo puts to the wheel what the tfs kit does. So all the hype about alphbet cams sucking isnt always true. Yes they are old tech but in a simple hci 302 i feel they work just as good as some of the new stuff. I would advise the 1.72 rockers but in realaty with stock heads you brobally wont see much diff.
