Ford Racing Cobra intake!!!!

Make sure the baffle on the bottom of the lower is there and that it is put on properly. Ever since i put my chinese cobra intake on i've been plagued with it sucking oil up from the pcv. I have a oil seperator on it that helps but i have to empty it about every 200 miles.

It's gotten to the point where i'm thinking about buying a real cobra or explorer lower and swaping them.

I agree that some overseas made stuff is great and some is crap. whether the FRPP stuff made in China is good or not, there is just something inside me that says putting anything on a Mustang that says "Made in China" on it is just plain sick and wrong. Just my .02

every 2004-later Cobra Intake is made overseas.

It's due to the requirement that vehicle manufacturers carry replacement parts for a car for 10 years. After that they can discontinue them.

SO you guessed it. 2003 came around and Ford almost discontinued the Cobra Intake kit. Instead they sold their casting machinery to a chinese company who makes them for Ford under lisence.

The 10 years rule is true for a lot of Mustang parts, which is why there are not a lot of discontinued fox parts as of 2003 and why more and more outside manufacturers are starting to buy the molds and casting and make replica parts such as interior panels and such.

It's good for us in a way because if you ever look through the 5.0 resto mag, they have pretty much every stupid little misc fox part you could think of in there...even rare black interior parts. Downside is they aren't always made to the same specs.

Yep same problem here too, put an oil seperator on from Home Depot, but I have not driven it yet. I noticed a huge puff of white smoke at start up because I beleive it was puddling up in the intake until I started it and it burned it right up. Can't wait to get it on the road and test it out to see if it still burns oil. I used like 1 quart in 75 miles last time!

I have the SAME oil consumption problem. I tried the Home Depot oil separator too and it does catch oil. I was told that if you are pushing oil through the pcv valve it is because you have excessive blow-by. I did a leakdown test of my engine and the cylinders ranged from 5%-9% which according to the gauge was acceptable. I was then told that a leakdown test only tests the compression rings and that my oil rings could still be bad, hence the blow-by, hence losing a court of oil every 100 miles or so. So now I am shopping for a new shortblock, performance heads, performance intake........

Dude,

Don't go wasting your money on all kinds of tests and expecially getting a new block. We obviosly know what the problem is and where it is coming from thanks to the help of the seperator! My motor only has 600 miles on it! Everything is brand NEW all EAGLE forged internals SRP JE pistons, and molly rings! But I also have the added advantage of having the tall polished ford racing valve covers. So if the oil sepeartor fills up quickly, I will relocate the PCV valve to my driver side valve cover through the grommet and simply plug the rear PCV with a cap! Hopefully with the baffles installed it will not pull oil from their at all. Just idling for about 20 minutes with some reving to 2K here and there after I installed the seperator it filled up about 1 tablespoon!

I agree, i dont think the intake is your only problem. I only lose about a quart every 600 miles or so, and thats with a leaky rear main.

For every one who is having problems with oil consumption via the pcv...

I have solved this problem on my car, and will post a thread on it later tonight.
I'll edit this and put a link in here when I do.

Basically, I needed to add a second vent to the crankcase. A second pcv routed from the drivers valve cover and joining up with the stock pcv line just before the Home Depot separator was all it took.
