Ford Racing Hood Pin Kit Installation

I'm just about to install a hood pin kit but I was wondering where does the end of the lanyard attatch to? I have one end attatched to the pin (obviously), but what about the end that gets fixed to the chasis? thanks

I attached mine right to the hood pin itself. looped the cable over the pin and sandwiched it in between a washer and tightened the nut on the hood pin.

I never put mine on -- I couldn't find a way that I thought they looked good. Also was worried about scratching the paint. I didn't think those would keep me from losing them anyway.

They attatch to the stud that the pin attatches to - but they do so underneath the hood, then they curve around the hood edge, then on top to the pin.

Same here, I used them for about a week but the hood wasn't painted at the time. Those who are using them, will it hurt the paint over time?

How about this-

Just go out to your local hardware store and buy some stainless steel frame hanger wire, for like $2.00 and then cut it to size and then buy some really skinny plastic rubber hose. Get some WD40 and spray it throughout the hose, Take the wire slide into place and then cut it to the desired length!
get some light lead weight looking wire clamps-that the wire can go through, clamp'em down-and attch them to the hood pin clips and right ontot he perfectly drilled holes, compliments of FORD at the factory and your done for like $10... hahahaha Foget the $35 FMS hood pin kit. The stainless never rust!

Oh and the rubber will nevr scratch your hood paint! Ive done this aboiut 20X already! hahahahah perfect on a budget!

I was with you up until this point. I have no idea what you are talking about here.

Also, I would have to say this probably won't look as good, may not function as well, and the Ford kit is stainless anyway -- so it won't rust either.

I've had the FRPP hood pins (stainless steel) for about 9 months... they are now starting to rust. I'm super pissed. But as for the paint, they did not hurt the paint at all.

the ford kit is stainless, and the wire is already covered with vinyl, so it won't scratch the paint.

I was able to open the hole on one end and feed the wire through itself. I'll fasten it around the hood pin bolt itself between the washer an body of the car.

p.s. can I use a spade bit to drill throught the fibreglass hood?

my experience with spade bits (on wood) is they lke to tear on the edges, so it may tear the fiber glass abit on the edges. i would use a large drill bit personally

I used a drill bit until I got to the point that I could fit my Dremel with a sanding drum on it in the hole. Then I used that to open up the hole to the size of the plates.

Also important to note, in order to help with splintering the fiberglass, drill from the side that you don't want splintered. This means, on a dual layer hood (which I think most are) drill up from the bottom through one layer and down through the top for the second layer. Of ocurse at first you will have to go up through both. Masking tape may also help -- as well as let you make marks.

I always put masking tape on the top side of the hood to keep from splintering it. Also I found a drill bit thats a little bit bigger than the pins a Home Depot. Its worked like a charm on 3 different hoods.

What do you reccomend to people wanting to keep them from rusting? I have used Turtle Wax Chrome Polish in the past, but am open to new suggestions.

I knew theyd rust and I have cleaned them up. Doesnt bother me at all. All I was saying was that dont expect them to stay perfect all the time.
