I asked this in another thread but didn't get an answer yet. I'm looking to buy a Ford Racing radiator from LRS. In the description it notes that modification is required for install , but it doesn't specify exactly what. Does anyone know what this is and if it is worth it? I need a radiator.. SAP

the rubber in the top mounts needs to be trimmed/removed, and thats it. the core itself is twice as thick as a stock rad though, so if have an efan setup you may have to play a bit with the fans placement (i had to offset my taurus fan when i put it in, stock belt fan cleared fine though)

ahh ok . Thanks. Will it fit into the lower rubber mounts on the radiator supports or does it come with wider rubber mounts? I had this problem with the last radiator I bought. The bottom of the radiator also scraped against the metal surface on the radiator support. Is that normal?

MustangLX-5.0, I have one in my 93. I left the rubber isolators in the bottom & removed them from the top. The upper metal brackets needed some tweaking for a solid fit. There is also a plastic locating pin (upper right in the pic below) that I cut off as well.

Thanks for the info LRS. I think I'll go ahead and get me one. I'm just looking for a premium quality radiator that holds up much better than a factory one that fits and doesn't give me a boat load of fitment issues ... like I had with a Ready Rad.

I have a couple more Q's then I'll be out of everyones hair here..

The stock fan shroud supposedly fits.. correct? On the Ready Rad, the radiator was at least a half inch too tall between the top shroud bolt clips and the bottom shroud clips. If I tried lining them top and bottoms up, I had the fan blade jammed into the shroud. I just dont want to order something and have this same problem. Chuckman, you said your stock fan fit, you did use your stock shroud right?

Home much more coolant is needed over a stock radiator? This is for a 92 convertible if that makes any difference.

This wont overcool a stock motor?

yes, my stock shroud fit fine, there are tabs at the bottom of the rad for the stock clips to slide into, the upper i needed to use a couple small bolts and some washers.

the rad on its own wont over-cool, but a t-stat that opens at too low a temp can. i run a 180 atm, but the stock 192 is preferred (keeps the electronics happy and makes the car more efficient).
