Ok so love the car but the shifting action is a bit truck like I decide to pick up a shifter, found on E-bay a Ford Racing / Hurst M-7210-T1A shifter for 120$ and bought it. I noticed that there are three model types though. same number but one is T other is T1 and other is T1A. What's the difference?

Thanks

one accepts the stock knob, and has a round lever, very similar to the stocker. one has a flat lever that accepts the HURST handle and knob. the other shold be the billet version. that one will have a large billet mounting arm, and will look much beefier than the others. i have never seen one of the billet version available. advertised, but never available. B&M bought out HURST, so the manufacturing of the billet version as on the back burner during the transition.

Chris from B&M (user name here is subzero05) should be able to tell you more about the B&M/HURST delays).

the ford racing one i believe is the first one, that accepts the stock handle. as far as i know, they all function the same and have the same amount of throw.

Huh so I may have one of the few that leaked out to the public ?

Very interesting.... one thing concerns me though. The front bushing appears to be missing, now it just may be in the packaging but I may need to get one where would I go about securing one?

nope, that is just the regular hurst, not the FRPP or the billet version. it is the same one i have. click the link in my signature for a write up on it.

as far as the bushings go, you will most likely need to contact the seller and/or HURST to get the bushings.

with all the pics and everyone coming over to check it out, it took about an hour and a half. should take you much less time if you dont have these distractions.

to remove the shifter boot, pull on the side of it towards the middle, and lift. it will come right off.

Let me know what you guys think of your hurst shifter. I bought an MGW. Its more expensive than the others but I love it. A little notchy until I decreased the travel and extended the height which are options I think are unavailable with the hurst. I may be wrong. Anyway, I have a stock shifter unit for sale if anyones interested. Just Kidding Big Cat I threw that piece out. Have fun with your units!

the hurst suits my needs 100% i have never missed a shift with it. (although i only missed a gear twice with the stocker, and once was the 2nd day of ownership.) personally, i see no need for me to upgrade my shifter.

I just finished Installing My Hurst shifter.
It looks great and just fits with the styling of the car
I have no problems with any gear. I heard that 2 to 3 was a Problem, but I was able to row the gears without missing a beat.

Alright so the Shifter finally got to my house.

Looks nice and spiffy though the ball is a simple white numbered unit instead of having the hurst writing on the side but that's ok.

The thing I mentioned in the previous post is that it appears that some parts are missing.

Look at the image and you'll see what i'm talking about. The front bushing is not there, and neither is the rear one. The bolts that go through the shifter to secure it to the shift-rod don't appear to have anything to secure themselves to other then the shift rod's thread itself. And last but not least there's no instructions whatsoever for the unit.

Those of you that bought Hurst shifters did something else come with the unit? am I missing something? did I get duped?

Thanks for the info!

it should have come with new red bushings for the front mount, and one for the rear mount, where the back mounts to the body. the plastic bushings from the shift lever itself are reused, IIRC. read the write up in my sig. its been about a year since i did this, and i dont remember all the small details. the write up should have everything you need to know though.

I think it may shift a little bit softer if you reuse your original bushings if they fit. If you choose to try the OEM ones from your existing shifter tell us how it feels.

Thanks for the suggestions. What about the allen bolts that secure the hurst lever to the shift rod? do they have some kind of backing to them?

I saw that Steeda offers a shifter bushing kit for 20 bucks or so. Now i'm not sure of its for their Tri-Ax models or what but do you think those would be good for this shifter?

As usual thanks for the insight on this.

i am pretty sure those washers in your pic go to those allen bolts. there are no nuts on the other side of the handle.

Retro stangs should have a hurst shifter, it's an unwritten law hee hee. Also you need the hurst emblem for the trunck lid.

I'm thinking I need to put a hurst equpped emblem between the two central A/C vents once everything is said and done.

Ok so I got the bushing from Steeda and they were upgrades for the stock shifter so they popped right in! Great now the shifter can be installed the only thing is i'm still iffy about the washers. I just noticed running through my Steeda catalog that they offer securing bolts to put to the allen screws... I shoulda noticed those earlier!!! i'm not sure I like the idea of hammering on the shifter with just a dinky washer holding the whole thing in place it just doesn't sound right to me....
