ford racing stainless shorty headers any good???

I've had them on my 93 5.0 for 5 years. They fit perfectly and I've had 0 problems with leaks. They're starting to get a little on the discolored side now, but for the price they're hard to beat. If the 4.6 ones are comparable to the 5.0's, I'd say go for it.

These have been discussed quite a bit in the past. What I picked up from the discussions when I was trying to decide between shorties and long tubes is that the FRPP shorties on the 4.6L are worth a couple horsepower. The only shorties that are supposed to be any good on the 4.6L are the JBAs but they are about $450 or so.

Also, there are quite a few guys at Modular Depot that have talked about how they had FRPP shorties at one point and gained anywhere from 0 to 3 or 4hp then switched to longtubes and got some good gains.

I'm curious about the FRPP headers myself. Being a Cali resident, I can't even pass a visual w/ cold air. So, since JBA's are damn expensive, any decent alternative is certainly welcome.

You can pass visual with the K&N FIPK2....It has a CARB sticker to prove it!

Longtubes would be great, if some of us didnt have to pass emmissions, but we do. There is note at the bottom of the jegs page about the headers being 50 state legal, but I cant tell if that note applies to everything on that page or nothing on that page (It says things with a (1) are what that note is talking about, but nothing on that page has a (1)
Also, if we are looking at getting a power adder of some kind will the JBA's be better than stock? Is it possible to make 500-600rwhp with stock manifolds? With shorties?

On Jeg's, if there's no (1) in the product description, it does not have that attribute.

Here is a pretty good question then: Why would BBK go through the trouble of making shorties that werent legal. Obviously if your trying to choose between non leagal headers (long tube or shorties) you are going to go with long tubes. Especially if the cost and install is similar. I mean, is there really a huge market for non emmissions legal shorties for the 4.6?

Tim from T & J is putting down 729 rwhp and over 1200 rwtq through JBA shorties...his screename here is Cobra Killer

WOW! I know who Tim is (I think everyone on these forums does by now) But, I had no idea he was running shorties on his car, I just kind of assumed he was running LT. That is terrific, I plant to build a forged blower motor and want to get in that 600rwhp range, but also want ot stay legal. Glad to hear that the shorties will work at those power levels.

I bought my shorties 2 wks after purchasing my car. I really couldn't tell a difference between the stock headers and these at the time. Since, I've made other changes/modifications to my car and definitely tell that this isn't the same car I bought 2 years ago. Overall I'm pleased. They look really good, ( JetHot coated ). I've had zero problems with them or the install. For the cost of installing them, I now regret getting L/T's, but at the same time, the MAC's were the brand of choice and I totally refuse to buy those unless they were Ceramic coated ( which was not available 2 years ago ) so, that's my .02 cents..
