this whole deal is ridiculous. my aunt has worked for "that which must not be named" for 20 years. shes a mechanical engineer for them and i asked her about this law suit stuff over memorial day weekend and she hasnt heard anything about it. im not saying its not true, but if it is they arent telling anyone in the company about it.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Mustang is a word. Yes it happens to be the name of a car, but they doesnt give them the right to copyright the word. Next thing you know Dodge will sue for use of the word "Magnum" and the condom company will go out of business.

How about the Ford and Gillette Fusion...they even look the same and the Gillette Fusion is advertised SOOO much more than mustang aftermarket parts!

This is it, the down fall of our economy. Crime rates are going up and major corps. are sueing the little people. Even the banks are sueing people that are victims of money order fruad(I'm one of them), which M.O's were supposed to be conterfit proof and safe from fruad. Now the economy is relying on the small indepent business owners to carry it back up where it was before 2001. The major corps. are taking full advantage. Like GM taking some of the retirement funds that were promissed to the workers. What next, Bill Gates sueing every time some one says windows.

Well, it's free advertising.... I don't understand why they don't want more companies with thier names on it. Wow, Ford is headed downhill fast. What about people with the last names "Ford" who are not actually related to the Ford family?
I guess the tobacco companies will be next to start this.. Virginia is going to have to change their state name, as well as most cities in North Carolina.

You can't trademark a common word. I hope they spend lots of money and loose badly, and Toyota or GM buys them out. That is if anyone wants them, that is.

whats scary is if they win anything then it will be a new bench mark for other companies to sue for.........

ford should be happy people use the mustang name to sell ford parts.........and parts for cars ford builds........lets see, if i opened up a mustang shop i'd have to call it " car parts for cars named after horses" ??? i mean you couldn't even say ford parts right, because then that would be using the ford name.....

this stuff scares me because they can split hares all they want and pretty much the definition of who can do what is in the hands of people who's only interest is money and it's getting that way with everything...

it's been mentioned in here this is one more ploy to rake in some bucks so the big boys can get rich before they implode the company.......i agree......and immagine how much money owning some of these names is worth in the long run........

i think this country's corporations and goverment have all been secretly hi-jacked by satan.....lol

hey- i just had an after thought.....is mustang mustang in spanish?? i see on a can of pringles potatoe chips i have it now say their chips in spanish now on the can........i wonder how all this name game stuff will play out when everythings in spanish......lol

Dear "That which must not be named",

In order to be fair, since you own the word "M*stang", you must also own many other words. I have compiled a list of people that are using your words so that you may sue them and get richer. Here goes:

1) Texas Rangers : The Official Site
http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=tex

2) New York Rangers
http://www.newyorkrangers.com/

3) Internet Explorer 7: Home

4) Focus Factor - Order Focus Factor For 17.69!

5) Crown Victoria

6) Lincoln University

7) Abraham Lincoln

8) General Atomics Fusion Education

9) Freestyle, Five Hundred, Escape... Oh boy

WTF is up Ford's Rear end? Ford is getting Free Advertising and they want to copyright a horse's name. It would be Hilarious if North American Aircraft were to Copyright Mustang, they used it first with the P-51 Mustang of WW2. I first seen this on Focaljet.com. Sorry If I was not here for a while, I work alot and I did not get the Family Mustang GT yet .

well it is Ford's name. people shouldnt be so stupid to open a business and put Mustang in the name.

Ford isnt suing people for selling something that is for a mustang or for saying the word mustang lol

just dont open a business and use a copyrighted name. im not taking sides though because i think Ford is going too far asking for $10k in damages...thats bull****t

I really, really hope to see ford win some of these suits, then a class action back at them, making them pay it all back with interest, bankrupting them.

Ford doen't have a Copyright on the word "mustang" and they certianly can't copyright things like "pony" or "stang".

There is one major flaw in the Justice system, because unlike the executive and legistrative branch of goverment, there is no system of checks and balances in the judicial system. Judges are basically kings/queens/dictators. Right now, judges are making laws, we hear about them every day. Innement Domain is one of them. Here in GA, we voted to amend the state constitution to say Marrige is between a man and a woman, however, a Judge blocked it. Judges can't make laws, they are only allowed to judge weather they are constitutional or legal. Thier personal opinions don't count.

This is the dumbest thing I've heard of since the 4door "Charger Benz". All the aftermarket does, is encourage people to go out and buy Mu***ngs. If we couldn't modify and customize our P**y Cars, F**d wouldn't sell half as many. I think they're still sore that way back in the day they had to call their German Xport Mu***ngs "T5"s. So now in the spirit of "retro", they want to pee on everyone's party.

I have one good question... How can ford sue anyone after all the people they are responsible for sueing. How can a murderer sue people? Ford has a grocery list of recalls they were forced to do that they knew was killing people but waited until forced to do anything about it.

I'm probably not the best to explain this, but Ford can only go after people using the word "Mustang" in the automotive industry. Because they own the automotive word "Mustang." They can't sue people with companies named "Mustang Supply" who sell horse supplies, or people with companies named like "Flying Mustangs" who sell airplane parts.

Unless you guys are just being silly and saying all that other stuff, because you already knew they can't sue unless it's automotive.

But yeah, it sucks. I'm glad I had the "Ford" and "Mustang" emblems shaved off of my '66. I'm going to do the same with my '01 GT.

I've commented on this issue so many times already that my head is beginning to hurt. Ford needs to pull their collective heads out of their collective rear ends.

Perhaps this is a ploy by all the gray old geezers that work on the top floor to gain as much capitol as they can before writing big fat checks out each other in preparation for bankruptcy and closure.
