Hey everyone, this is sort of an addition to my first thread i made, I got a more detailed description of what happend to my dads toploader, this is the full story
My dad had a ford toploader 4 speed in his 1971 mach one with a hurst competition shifter, he was going down his driveway, and a pretty big rock came up and clanked the side of the transmission, causing it to shift down from first and down to second, it became stuck for a little while, but once he got it out of second, he said it would shift half way up into first, but would shift very far down into second.
He had told me that it was probably the shifting fork (because thats what other people told him)
And then for awhile I thought it could have been the detent for the 1st/2nd shift rail was bad (so i ordered another one, along with the spring), also what exactly does this spring in detent do? I have been trying to look it up but cant find a thing on what exactly it does.
The more I think about it though, the more I think it could have been the linkages up in a bind or he just needed to re adjust them, because he didnt bother to repair it or anything.
What do yall think?
Also on a last note, I had gotten a deal on some linkages and such and it appears to be this kit.
HURST SHIFTER MOUNTING kit Big Block Toploader 1967-1969 | CJ Pony Parts
I see that it appears to be for a big block toploader, when the transmission I have came out of a 71 mach 1 with a 351C, the problem is when I go to hook up the linkages they appear to be 1 or 2 inches short. Then I realized that I needed this kit
HURST SHIFTER MOUNTING kit Toploader 1964-1973 | CJ Pony Parts
would that be the only other kit that would be right for my transmission? I had already ordered it, and im kind of tight on money, so I really hope its right.
Any help would be wonderful, I have had a hell of a time converting my 69 from automatic to manuel, (and in the process I found out how horrible the 4 speeds from 79-83 mustangs are unfortunatly)
