Ford's Fix for FRP Cobra Intake

Well I called FRP about the small baffle and 2 days later I get this...

Are those things in the baffle rivets? How do I go about installing this?

Gaskets look decent too.

The original small baffle sucks, so I called them and asked them for something that wont suck a ton of oil into the PCV

The rivets are drive rivets. With the proper sized hole, they will tap into place with several sharp blows of a hammer. If that doesn't suit you, you can drill and tap the places in the manifold and loctite the screws in place.

Nice getting a part number on that baffle. I'd suggest just making one from galvanized sheet metal wiht a set of hand metal shears and a drill. I do it quite often when I get intakes with the baffle removed or missing. The hles drill and tap weasily for 1/4-20 bolts.

Guys forgive me for asking what is prolly a dumb question, but what is the function and purpose of this baffle? I have a trickflow intake and for the life of me I cant remember if it has one, came with one or even needed one. My oil and pcv from what I know are not a problem though.

I called them Friday of last week and it came on Monday!

Ill probably just end up painting it w/ some engine paint/hight temp paint.

I looked up the part number but couldnt find anything, my guess its and old explorer baffle or something that had a GT40 intake

I'd bead blast or sand blast it clean then coat it with paint. If you can't do that, use some "rust converter" to halt the rust process before painting.

It keeps oil that gets splashed up from the lifter valley away from the underside of the manifold around where the PCV valve draws suction.

well I just sanded down the new baffle and sprayed it with some Dupli-Color Engine Enamel.

Should be good to go now.

But Im going to have to take the lower intake to a machine shop to get the new baffle put on. Im not gunna waste my time trying to drill out the old rivets.

You don't have to drill them. Take a small chisel and work it around the edge of the rivet head - it will back out. It might take some good raps with a hammer, but just keep working it around the rivet head.

I tried this on mine and the head started to come off the rivet. They're really soft. I ended up taking mine to my machine shop and they took care of it for me on the cheap.

As for this being an Explorer part, the tag says "service part" which generally means that it was made to solve a problem, i.e.: oil consumption on a new part that they're selling hundred of.
