Just wondering, are any peices in the bottom end forged beside the pistons in the 5.0s? I was always under the assumption it was just the pistons but I read a post that made me wonder...

Only the pistons from '87-'92. Everything else is cast.

Not to worry though, you'll split the block before hurting anything else.

I have an 86 short block and it has TRW forged pistons from the factory.

I read the crankshaft was lightened, which means weakened. It should outlast the block though?

not to steal the thread but Is that same true for a 351? or are all forged internals worth it?

351 block is much stronger than a stock 302. Forged internals wouldn't be a waste.

the crank in the 5.0's is actually the same as every other crank put in the 302 from '87 till the end of production (between '81-'86 they were all the same too, just a different part number). It carries the same part number as all the rest of them. the 2MAE cranks after '80 were all lightened, they have less material in them than the 2M, and 2MA...hence the change in imbalance from 28oz-50oz in '81.

don't worry though, the crank is nodular iron, and the rods are stout units...like 88POSLX said though, you'll split the block before you break anything else

What would be considered safe boost levels to run on a stock bottom end, taking into account a proper tune?

Not so much the boost level as it is the power being made. If you want it to live shoot for 450-500 rwhp. People will say they destroyed motors making less power and others will say they made 100 rwhp more and had their motor live, but on average a 450 rwhp car will last a good while and provide plenty of fun.

just keep your engine combo from becoming too radical, and you'll be good to go...but if you wanna go REALLY fast, save up for a dart/FRPP/world prod. 4 bolt block

If you wanted to run boost what would you have to get forged.

I was thinking around 350 - 450 would be nice to shoot for at the wheels. Properly tuned.

that's livable, just start choosing your parts wisely, and they'll live a long happy life...
