forged pistons?

I am going to be doing a longblock motor exchange on my 91 5.0 for $1,200, and I was wondering if it is worth throwing in some forged pistons and moly rings for $400 more. I don't have a lot money to spend and Don't plan on going over 450hp. I do have a 10 psi supercharger, holly intake, 30lb injectors, and a full exaust. I will be installing a 3200-3400 stall lock-up converter at the same time. I was also wondering if that 400 would be better spent on something else. " less debt or paint" LOL Thank you for you input

That is a no brainer!!! Spend the $400 on the internals while the block is apart, it will be less expensive then having to do it over if something does "melt" after all is said and done. 10PSI on a street motor is a lot, better to be safe then sorry.

The pistons I was looking at will give me a 8.5:1 ratio(dish). With that lower ratio will I be able to run more boost, if so, do you know how much?

Depends on your other mods, such as cam, long tubes, heads. Boost is relative, the "boost" we see is PSIG... Pounds per Square Inch Gauge, so it varies on other mods.

i thought 91 came with forged pistons from factory! 5.0 h.o 93 and up had hyper....

Yep. All off the SEFI engines before '93 had forged pistons and rods.

Hard to say without any more info. Could be injection molded plastic for all we know. Talk to the builder/supplier.

if it was a factory '91 motor then it would have factory forged pistons, but since it has been rebuilt you'll want to contact the builder as theres a good chance it was replaced with hypers since they are cheaper

I would go the forged piston route especially if you are going with a power adder. Well worth it.

Do to all your replies, I went ahead and ordered a set of forged pistons from jegs. I might as well do it while the motor is apart. Thanks for all the responses.
