I just dragged home an 86 Turbo Coupe, to potentially convert a Mustang to 2.3 turbo power...

I am torn between the AFR head install and trying to get the TC running, this weekend.

Car projects, I have no will power.....

Try it

Wouldnt try to convert a v-8 car to a turbo 4, but would like to know what your looking to put the 2.3 in? God knows ther are plenty of four cylinder rolers in the classifieds. Regardless, let me know how it goes. New toys are always cool and turbos can be a h#$$ of alot of fun.

You could always use it as a boat anchor.

Step 1 is to get it running.

Step 2 is to find something to put it in.

I have 2-4cyl Mustang parts cars now, one that may be eligible for a title.

I originally was going to put it in my na 89 2.3 LX notch, but it already runs nicely and gets 20-25 mpg.

The carbed 82 would be the easiet convertion, but it's gettin AFR heads, and some upgrades to get it lower in the 12's or better.

I found out the darn blocks are not galvanized, so you can't really use them for boat anchors, except in fresh water. I was bummed when I found out.

Dammit... I find that many of my ideas are crushed because of the ineptitude of Ford engineers.

With the cost of gas, a turbo 2.3 swap makes good sense. All the chassis parts that are from a 5.0 that are a little on the weak side would be an upgrade for a 4 cylinder. The Turbo 2.3 can make 300 HP if you get crazy with the boost and a new head. See http://www.esslingeracing.com/ for all sorts of goodies for the 4 cylinder engines.

Daggar..I heard that new pr3 coating not only converts rust to a paintable surface, but allows you to use any engine block as a boat anchor. I think its one of their sales pitches.

Jrichker.....Definitely sound intresting. I love v-8s, but having a 20-30mpg car would be damn nice. Keep me posted on how the swap comes around. Love to learn about it. Have seen quite a few 2.3 turbos for under 3500.00. Might make a damn nice go to work car.

There was a guy around here that converted a '84 with a 460 to a turbo 2.3. So its not that crazy. IIRC he actualy made it into one of the Mustang Mags.

Stick the engine in an old Pinto. That would be awesome to see people's faces as you fly in one of those.

thats what ive got and even with the stock 88tc donor motor running stock all of last summer it was quick enough to run with a EVO. It has now evolved into what is in my sig.

It might be a cool mustang provided you do it right and don't just put the Turbo Coupes engine in and leave it stock.

So do both. How long could it take to change the top end on a carbed 302?
